Obviously I don't think my opinnion will carry any weight in regards to the council or the planners, but I can see what is happening and if I choose to comment then I will.

Sheffield City Centre no longer has any soul, just empty blocks of concrete, and if you call that "doing the job", you need to raise your expectations.
|
I didn't! I said they were 'doing the job they're given'. The trouble is that job is incredibly restricted by thier budgets and by the proposals put in front of them! See the point I'm making? SIMPLES!!!!!

You could argue that Sheffield City Council made two errors with regard to our city centre:
1, allowing a private shopping mall a couple of miles away to be constructed with acres of free parking; &
2, providing a tram route which takes you directly to it (and out of our own city centre).
But we all know that when it comes to the city centre, the council has made error after error and has caused more damage than the Luftwaffe could ever have done.
Indeed, those errors continue to this day and will continue long after I am gone.

Cheaper and easier to park as well. In fact Cortonwood shopping complex is free to park.
It's just a pity that we have to pay our council tax to Sheffield instead of Barnsley!

You could always move to Barnsley?!

I took my grandson to the panto last week at the Lyceum, it cost just over £7 to park, and I think this is too much money.
The parking in town is too expensive, and there isn't enough parking places, I would suggest a deliberate move on the 'move cars out of the city centre', by the council.
Those thousands of jobs that were created in Sheffield, building empty office blocks, those jobs were filled by people who actually lived in other cities.
And Yes, I have been to Milton Keynes

If you were prepaired to walk more than three feet from your car you can park much cheaper than that.

Well actually the Council are NOT responsible for this at all.
Planning consent for Meadowhall was given by the Sheffield Development Corporation (SDC), who were the planning body in the east end of Sheffield at that time. I also seem to recall that SCC objected to the application.

In which case the SDC are also responsible to a large degree to the demise of Rotherham town centre.
What happened to the clowns that ran that outfit?
