A decent job by Haye, although he did do a lot of running from Valuev.

Not too sure the Klitschkos are too worried though.

Yes the Klitschkos are in a different league, they will annihilate the Ali wannabee.

I actually thought Valuev won most of the early rounds as neither boxer threw many punches but Valuev commanded the centre of the ring with Haye esssentially running out of range.
Around about the 4th round when Valuev did land some glancing blows on Haye and opened up a cut, I thought Valuev would step it up and come on strong but that didn't happen.

Haye didn't land that many punches but he did managed to land some decent punches in a couple of rounds and that's why he won it.

I managed to watch it free and am glad I didn't fork up the £15 Sky were asking, overall it wasn't much of a spectacle.

I had Haye for the first 3, the middle rouunds I gave to Niko.

Towards the back end of the fight I think Haye showed a bit more intent which got him the decision.

Ugly fight, and I was amazed Haye got the nod in Germany, but overall it's a good thing for boxing.

I'm eveb more happy that the next time Haye goes to the table with the Klits, he won't have to take unreasonable terms to get a nice payday from them. I just hope he gets Wlad instead of Vitali!

Yes Wlad would be the easier option, although we still don't know if Haye's chin is up to it because Valuev hardly landed any shots on his Haye's chin.

Haye will have to stand and trade a bit more with either of the Klitchkos though that's for sure.

Personally I think Haye and his pretend Ali attitude are bad for boxing, he is nothing more than style over substance.

At the end of the day though Haye achieved what he set out to achieve, win the heavyweight title.
I was skeptical that he could do it, but he proved me wrong.

As I said though we are in a strange position in that we have a heavyweight champion of the world who's chin hasn't yet been tested at the weight, I do wish Valuev actually landed a bit more, although you couldn't say it was for lack of trying on Valuev's part, Haye was just too quick for him to catch.

You are of course correct Kingmaker, on all points. Valuev is in my mind no more than an oddity and I think Haye has proven nothing by beating him. I think Haye will be demolished by either of the Klitschkos, they are in a different league to Valuev.

A blown up cruiserweight with 23 fights on his record has just beaten the biggest heavy of all time with over 50 wins and you don't give him credit??

Come on, give the guy some respect!

I Thought Haye fought a great fight, none of the gung-ho gunslinger attitude, kept to the game plan well and came out a deserved winner. Showed Valuev for what he is, a difficult to reach monster of a man who can't really box unless he's up against a statue!
Jim Watts commentary was really grating, suggesting that Valuev was winning rounds simply for walking forward! Thankfully the judges didn't see it this way.
Well done Haye, the heavyweight scene may become interesting again.

I didn't watch the Skysports coverage but got the German coverage and to be fair to Jim Watt some judges will score the round for the more aggressive fighter particuarly if nothing much is coming back the other way.
I also scored a number of the rounds for Valuev because Haye wasn't doing a great deal except run away from Valuev.
You've also got to consider that generally speaking Challengers have to do a bit more than the Champion to take the title away.

Don't forget one of the judges scored the fight even and so did the Guardian boxing writer :

http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009...ev-title-fight

Luckily for Haye 2 judges were obviously impressed by Hayes occasional fast attacks and scored the fight for Haye.
I myself would have scored the fight a lot closer perhaps giving Haye the edge but only just.

Credit where credit is due. Unless you`ve actually stepped into a ring yourself, it`s easy to criticise. In my view, both of them deserve their due.
