I`m been playing about with a word doc to get the margins right.
In the page "set-up" , under "margins" the options for adjustment are:
Top, Bottom, Left ,Right. That seems simple enough. But then there is the options to adjust the "header" & "footer". What is that for? I thought top would be the header and bottom the footer
Hi,
yeh but a bottom margin is basically a space at the bottom of a page, so what is the difference in respect of using the footer adjustment and the adjustment for the bottom margin?
the margins are the space from the top or bottom of page - headers and footers are space where information can be placed to show up on each page.
Yep - as smary said. You could use the header or footer to show page number, date of document, author, version, LAN location, document title etc... They're usually about 3 lines deep, but can be amended as you've found.
I`m not asking the question in the right way maybe. I`m not really concerned with the purpose of the footers.
I have been trying to print a border all the way around an A4 sheet (like you may do for a letterhead). I have a nicely spaced border of about 10mm on 3 edges of the A4. At the bottom is (i guess) the footer, which is about 30mm. Am i to accept that this is as good as it gets, i.e it is not possible to get rid of the footer and just have a 10mm border ALL the way around the sheet? Maybe that is how it is supposed to be, i.e you are supposed to always have a footer? Hope i have made it a bit clearer what i am trying to do.Thanks for the advice so far.
if you go to = format -borders and shadings -page border - select your design - go to the bottom righthand corner and you will see 'options' click on that - on the next screen where it says 'measure from' slect - edge of text and the lines will surround the text which means the bottom line should show up.
