Does anyone know, please, if there's a register of local authority-owned land?

I know that it's possible to search by property to find out who owns it, just wondering if there is also a register of land owned by a local authority. Surely there is, 'else how would they keep a check on it? - but is it in the public domain?

Thanks!

This department in the council might be the first place to ask: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/business...hip---gis-unit

Thanks, Ms Macbeth. I'm actually interested in NE Derbyshire, and was wondering if the info is held online. Any more pointers?

All local authority owned land will be mapped by the local authority in what is called the land terrier system. Most of them will be digitally mapped but if there is a specific area you are interested in they will hold the original paper maps in storage, usually at the office.

I believe it is a public document so you should be able to ring the office and make an appointment to see it, sometimes you will be able to view it on the computer in the planning department or customer service desk depending on how far through the digitisation process that particular council is..

Contact the Local Authority concerned and make an appointment to go and see the land ownership plans. As said above they are public documents.

You're wanting the data for one particular authority? They will hold it and, unless one of the Freedom of Information Act exemptions applies (unlikely I think), then they must provide it within 20 working days of your written request. Write to the LA concerned.

Good luck with this search!

Our house stands on land once owned by the council, but when we came to purchase the lease they weren't aware that they owned it
