I'd say that would get you a detached at the moment, £200k would get you a decent semi.
Its just that my house at the moment, in Coventry, which is 10 mins walk from the town centre is a 3 bed small detached house (12 yrs old) and worth 200k.I would be looking idealy at the same sort of house in my old " Manor " of Lodge Moor for about 300 k .
My eyes did pop out though. My mates parents neighbours house in Fulwood (Hallamshire Drive ) is on the market for 235k for a 3 bed semi !! I know its a top area but the North/South divide seems to exist !
I think you will get a good deal if you make cheeky offers.
however, the house will still be worth less than you paid for it in 2 years time (my opinion)
yes make REDICULOUS offers....people will bite!!!! In some cases anyway.....prices are still falling, and dont let ANYONE try to convince you they are not....the market is crashing big time...
but hold out a while longer if I were you and u will get a substantial detached property for far less than you might believe at the moment, most property in S10 is in fact in 'negative equity' already......

A 3 bed semi opposite me has just sold in a few days for full asking price. It didn't even get advertised.
An old couple lived there for some years and the place needs modernising to say the least. We are just off Barncliffe/Crimicar Lane.
£200k.
I dont agree that 'most' properties up here are in negative equity, not that many have changed hands in the last 2 years.

I guess someone was desperate to move into the area then and was prepared to pay the full whack...but its still cheap for the area, a few years ago that would have gone for much more......plus modernising is all great, I would much rather pay out for house I could restore and do up room by room than something that was out of a showroom catelog

I am interested in where you get your ideas from. It most certainly isnt from what is actually happening

hi all
im still in Coventry due to parents divorcebut house goes on the market after xmas.its been valued at 190k so i will sell shares to get it up to 200k.
I viewed houses in Shirecliff (the estate on the main rd on top of the hill opposite sufcs acadamy).Which were stunning (dodgy gardens) but its a crap area.S10,the prices seem to rise with the hill from Crookes upwards !! Peak district mean everything that backs onto it mean peak prices.
I have been looking furthur up north from Bridlington to Scarborough area.Eg im looking at Burniston a village 5 miles north of Scarborough on the edge of the moors. The similarity to Lodge Moor is amazing (location) .i can get a 4 bed detached house with a great garden for 200k which is my budgetso who knows-ive got to sell mine first.if sommat like that comes up in LM though i'll have it Lm is my first choice and i cant keep away from it.
Coventry's suburbs remind me of a prison camp, the town centre hasnt yet come out of the war,and the people go by impressions where yorkies take you for who u are.The surrounding areas the same and all roads lead to the pub !.The 1st morning when i eventually move i'll prob wake up in a cold sweat !!

There's something about the place that draws you back. I was literally born up there so can claim to be a legit Lodge Mooron - much worse has been said?

Everyone says its prob sommat to do with childhood memories ( i spent 9 years there with some great friends) but when im a lot older its much more than that.I wasnt born there but it feels that i was.Ive always wanted to go back since the day i left 25 yrs ago.If i move to Burnistone, great, but when the time comes i will go back home.We lived 416 Redmires Road opposite (more or less ) Blackbrook House.

I can't remember the house number but if your name is Neil I might have been one of your friends. I was born an brought up in a house almost opposite the church on Blackbrook Rd.

I did have one idea though-if it didnt work out between me and my partner (ive known her for 3 years),i could have joined a sheffield dating agency and find a girl who has her own house in LM !!
