I still like "Family Guy" a lot. I used to watch "The Simpsons" over and over but have barely seen any of the last few years worth of shows.
"American Dad" I will watch, but it doesn't really "grab" me like "Family Guy" does.
"Futurama" I loved, but I wasn't too keen on the 4 new movie length episodes. They seemed too drawn out (no pun intended).
One of my all-time faves is "Daria", which Channel 5 used to show about mid-day on Sundays. Really witty and well-written with a great cast of characters.

Agree on both counts. The movies were OK, but tended to labour everything. Some great moments though. But the series? The best thing Groening & Co have ever done.
I'm also partial to South Park, which knows no bounds. It can be a bit hit and miss, but the hits are superb. The episode where Stan takes his dad's Margherita maker back to the US treasury, and they refund him $90 trillion was "On the money".

South park... Still streets ahead of anything Seth MacFarlane can put out!
Totally agree South Park waaaaay better.
What gets me about Family Guy is they'll come up with a joke then try to hammer the joke home to the viewer by cutting to a scene basically explaining the joke. For example...
Fat unfunny bloke says summat about being as useful as a chocolate fireguard (just making this up). Then cut to a scene of someone getting a chocolate fireguard as a present and they put it up in front of the fire and it melts. Ooh hilarious!
Best thing Seth McFarlane has ever done is the voice of Krauss in Hellboy II.
Thought they were funny when I was a kid, and then as I got older, I appreciated the satire. Plus, if it weren't for Chuck Jones, I doubt I would have been exposed to so much classical music from such a young age.

thats why family guy is so funny, think about it, if they actually just said the joke i doubt you would find it remotely funny at all.

Well, I'm very happy for you.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.
For me, the one cartoon I keep rewatching every now and then is Freakazoid! One of the shows from the Spielberg/WB team-up of the 90s (which included Tiny Toon Adventures and the ever bizarre Animaniacs), it only lasted 2 seasons but was gloriously nuts!

If you like that music then get hold of some Raymond Scott!
Carl Stalling's name appears more often in the credits, but Raymond Scott was the master composer. His compositions turn up in over a hundred WB classics as well as Ren & Stimpy.
A lot of the furious scores you hear in WB are single live takes. The incredible changes in tempo and music would stretch a modern ensemble, but these guys did it with aplomb.
The Carl Stalling CDs are great because they are the scores from the actual cartoons, but the Raymond Scott CDs are better music.
I love Tom and Jerry and Tweety and Sylvester even now
Tom and Jerry are very funny...
going back to more 80's stuff though I also liked He man, Master of the Universe and She-ra. Its all coming back to me now lol Jamie and his Magic Torch. Pigeon Street, Wackey Races, Racoons, Hair Bear Bunch, bloody hell the list is endless loved them all
