with the increasing number of people that are now listening to rock n roll jump jive blues rockabilly ect ect as an allternative would there be an interest in a club starting up in sheffield .....at the moment me and a friend run a very very successfull club in chesterfield that has around 100 plus people ..... both being sheffield guys meersbrook and woodseats we was wondering if sheffield has the need for such a club say to run once every month friday or sat night or just a one off to see what the attendance to such a gig would be ........on the night you have a record hop (disco)playing mostly jive music / rockabilly / blues ect with dance s such as strolling / jiving / bopping ect and then a live band playing two spots .......so all we ask is for club owners to prob get in touch if they are interested ....all we ask is that you have a stage / lighting ect .............thanx for reading if we did get interest we would be up for jive and stroll lessons ect

I love the fifties music my favourite era,and the forties.
Also apart from the rock and roll and rockabilly I thought the ballads and the singers were the tops.Everyone knew the words to the music and could sing to them.
Guy Mitchell.
Frankie Laine.
Anne Shelton.
Dean Martin.
Frank Sinatra.
Connie Francis.
Jerry Vale.
Platters.
Drifters.
Jerry Collona.
Bill Hailey.
Pat Boone.
Johnny Ray.
Rosemary Clooney.
Doris Day.To name but a few, and they could sing!!!!!

agree 100% nellie apart from pat boon who was hated for his covers of black singers and groups and still to this day has his opinions on the fact he stole songs for his own advancing career.....as the saying goes ''who killed pat boon''

You are so right Alien.
I would love to go to one of these nights but I think I may have to sit and watch or take plenty of painkillers and oxygen.

Great idea spartan; hope you get enough interest to make this a goer. But are you also catering for the fans of fifties Country, Doo Wop and Skiffle? As well as those that Nellie has mentioned, I would love to hear again the records of The Coasters, Ricky Nelson, Fats Domino, Ronnie Hawkins, Little Richard, Lonnie Donegan, Charlie Gracie, Carl Mann, Lloyd Price and the killer himself in a proper hall (like we used to dance and listen to them then) take me back to the old Memo. Good Luck.

Would the Moorfoot Tavern be any good for you for this? There's a stage area where the bands usually play and the chairs and tables could be cleared out of the way immediately in front of it.

I'm sure the regulars would love it. A Friday would be good.

I've got the lighting and quite a lot of the music already.

PM me if this is any good for you.
