I've just been sweeping the patio and noticed that there is a large dead bee fossilised to a small area of moss on the wall next too my block paving. Having blown the little fellow and watching him roll over obviously rancid with rigamortis, it got me wondering, how on earth did he die? Natural causes or navigational issues, hence a hefty collision with the patio window doors?

Note, his body is approx 2 metres away from the patio window doors.

Any ideas?

You need to cut him in half lengthways and keep one side and call him Eric the half a bee.
He may have been blown off couse by the storms the other day and perished because he pined for his hive.

If I did this, what would I do with his other half, Jabbs? I wouldnt want to offend his family and be done for unlicensed vivisection on a dead creature.

Bin the non workable half. Thats what Id do, the prospects of recycling him arent worth the trouble unless you have a tiny set of golf clubs and need a tiny cover for a 9 iron.

I've just popped out to have a look at him and note that his wings are in the upright position.... is this an insect form of angel lust?

I genuinely want to pay tribute to this Bee's life. Afterall, all Summer he has been busy provisioning the best possible pollen for his sacred queen. Who knows, as a direct result, we could be spreading his contribution of honey on our toast in a few months time. He's obviously had a hard pollen round, which he should be commended on and his life celebrated. Hence, I don't just want to throw his tiny corpse in the wheelie bin to see it wind up providing the power to cool our city centre office blocks this summer, nor heat in the winter months. That would be damn nasty and an insult to his parents. This thread is a fusion of human-insect relations and goes to prove that together we can respect one another as two seperate species.

Plus, if there IS an afterlife, you wouldnt want a spectral bee strafing you all night long on halloween now would you?
The lord notices each and every little life form that perishes in this nasty bee-unfriendly world of ours, and as such, we as the caretakers of the planet should make provision for our hard working insect brethren.

Does anyone know of a website for reunited dead bee's? Similar to friendsreunited, but for bee's which are... well... dead?

I hope such a site exists because I want to contact his parents/friends and work associates with the sorryful news.

I propose that we have a "Last 2 post silence" to remember this brave, industrious little fuzzy fellow.
