Just seen in the Star that planning permission has been granted to rebuild the shops opposite W H Smiths on Fargate into much bigger premises. They say there will be one large new store on 3 levels and 3 smaller units, but they don't say who the tenant is going to be.

Anybody got any ideas or what shops would you like to see there.

I feel that the building would be ideal for a Bigger Next store as the one next door is really small for a major city and would be able to take on the bigger Gap on pinstone street. Also i wouldnt have to go to Next at Meadowhall or pay £3.50 for the Next directory delivery charge!!

i'd love to see a large shopping mall!! the city centre is a bit crappy for england's 4th largest city!! i think topshop should be made bigger, there should be more variety of shops, like la senza, starbucks (we dont need 2 costa coffees!!), and habitat!

Noooooooooo not more trendy clothes shops and cosmopolitan coffee shops

At least there are some fairly decent shops in Town, unlike Meadowhall.

I quite like Sheffield City Centre for shops, it has a nice variety.

The only downfall is that it is so spread out from fargate, castle market and the moor.

I like the all the independant shops of places like Brighton/Hove.
In the lanes and all over the centre there are privately owned shops (much like on Division street but on a bigger scale).

That's the sorta city centre I'd like to see!

I completely agree - the last thing we need in the city centre is an outdoor replica of meadowhell. Or a clone of all the other city centres in the country. Please support small business over large corporations!!!

I think Fargate needs a mobile phone shop...not enough...Many a time I'm walking down Fargate thinking to myself "I need to update my phone..if only there was a mobile phone shop nearby"

I think it's impossible for someone of my age to buy some decent clothes in town you always have to travel to meadowhall which takes ages from my house.

Bring in more upmarket clothes shops like Henry Lloyd shop (Manchester), rockport Shop (Leeds) also to keep up with other major cities we need big department stores like harvey nics or selfridges.

They start building crap like Henri Lloyd and Rockport shops in Sheffield and I'll not go down town again. You'll want Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Hilfiger and all the other branded designer crap next.

Yeah I own two pair of Rockport Boots, Stone Island Tops, Hilfiger etc etc and I would agree that we DONT want those shops in town. It's ok if department stores want to sell em (i.e. Debenhams) but I wouldn't want to see dedicated tosh!

Some leather jacket shops too.... in NYC they have these leather jacket stores with all sorts of jackets (design and colouring wise) and they are amazing!

A real variety of stores is required!

They are just examples what i was trying to get accross is the lack of specialist shops like rockport, Henri Lloyd shops.

Anyways theres nothing wrong with these sort of shops.

Not enough?! How the bloody hell many do you want?! There's 3 next door to each other down the bottom end of Fargate, then there's The Link just across from there, not to mention the fact that Virgin Megastore, Index and Dixons sell mobiles.

A shop that sold decent lads clothes that were not designer labels would be nice, Where did Stolen fron Ivor go? not excellent but cheaper than skateboard shop in Chapel Walk, and he would go there too. Will not go in any other shop in town and Meadowhall just as bad and a nightmare too.
I love to go and have a shop when i go on holiday as there are usually much more exciting shops elsewhere.
