I see that the US-appointed government in Iraq has banned two of the Arab world’s most popular television channels, including Al-jazeera.

Any thoughts or comments?

Weren't they the only ones? And also controlled by the government? Or was this the one which got away with 'the truth'??

They haven't "banned" them from broadcasting as such. They have banned them from attending/covering the Councils activities, conferences, meetings etc for two weeks.

These news channels have been giving a platform to those advocating resistance against the US troops so it's not surprising they want to try and curtail it. Whilst it would be nice in one way for the Americans to suffer another Vietnam (as punishment for their imperialistic, self rightous and illegal action), the reality is it is the people of Iraq who'll suffer the most and the threat from terrorism will increase further. I think it is best not to "fuel the flames" so this warning/ban is probably sensible, although it does concern me when governements start trying to gag the media.

Al-Jazzera is bound to be biased.

The were the station that 'shocked' the US (and others) with their non-sanitized coverage of the invasion of Iraq - and showed what was really happening to Iraq civilians. They showed what the war was really like - bloody and horrible. Their coverage was 'banned' from most terrestial channels, and the US bombed their station in Iraq and killed at least one reporter - all accidentally, of course.

I, for one , am sorry - it's just another form of control and censorship.

I agree Carlwarker,

but then again, America are hardly being hypocrites in this...after all, they censor all the news in the States, too...

Hopefully soon we should see a stray bomb hit the headquarters of Fox News!
