Blue Day   10 #1034 Posted July 17, 2017 People always on here moaning about the death of the city centre and now they want to move a major railway development out to meadowhall. Do you think Leeds would allow their HS2 station to be in Headingley?  What benefit would having HS2 stop in the town centre have on the town centre? I can't think of one.....  I can however guarantee a massive increase in traffic around an already busy area I.e. The train station.  ---------- Post added 17-07-2017 at 15:51 ----------  I dont care about Rotherham and Barnsley. I live in Sheffield.  Oh dear......... Drive to Meadowhall and park is much quicker/cheaper for most than drive to Sheffield city centre and not park  ---------- Post added 17-07-2017 at 16:06 ----------  Im old enough to remember everyone saying exactly the same thing about the Euro tunnel. That it was too expensive and pointless etc etc And do you remember every one saying the same about the 2012 Olympics? The event was a month long and cost £10bn but in the end we all enjoyed it.  Our lives would not change if we didnt build HS2....we wouldnt get a cheque for £100 sent to everyone  Our country is over populated and we need as much infrastructure as possible. Get it built.  The only problem is that the technology is already now out of date. Maglev ultra-high speed and hyperloop are already being rolled-out in more advanced countries.  It's the same with Hinkley Point - the technology is going to be obsolete by the time it is complete (100% renewables is estimated for 2050)
 Share this content via...
Annie Bynnol   612 #1036 Posted July 17, 2017 Confirmed route is "The re-alignment of the route between Derbyshire and West Yorkshire. The route in South Yorkshire will be the route consulted in 2016 which in part follows the M1 and M18, serves Sheffield City Centre via a spur from the HS2 line and includes provision for a northern junction allowing trains to run between Sheffield and Leeds city centres using HS2."  Loss of proposed jobs in NE Derbyshire due to loss of train depot- to Leeds. Dan_Ashcroft   10 #1039 Posted July 17, 2017 No it doesn't.  Urm - yes  It's bypassing South Yorkshire and going straight to Leeds. We have to transfer onto an old chugger at Chesterfield and only 1 in 3 will bother doing that.  Sheffield has just been bypassed. Annie Bynnol   612 #1041 Posted July 17, 2017 No change of train will be required. Sheffield will be served by HS2 trains all the way and track from Clay Cross south. Now that the decision has been made, the unhappiness needs to be fixed on the potential that can be extracted.  Sheffield will get a nearly new station. Already in the planning to cope with electrification and new traffic it will now have to cope with two longer platforms for terminating trains. A new layout will be required at Sheffield station and the section of track between Dore and Sheffield will need trebling/doubling. This will benefit all users. Chesterfield station will get some/all of the HS2 services. Better parking and access at will make it an option for residents.  Now its up to us to pressure the decision makers to get what we want and not let it slide off the agenda.  ---------- Post added 17-07-2017 at 16:57 ----------  Is the train depot you refer to the one in Staveley? Yes, its to be sited east of Leeds.
 Share this content via...
