Jonny5   10 #1021 Posted July 17, 2017 Do you really need to get to London 20 mins quicker than you can now, even at £500 return a price quoted on the radio this morning as being the sum for a train leaving Leeds at 9am.  It's not about speed. It's about capacity.  If you ever get the inclination to leave the confines of South Yorkshire you'll find that the traffic infrastructure throughout the Midlands is creaking. SkylinePhoto   10 #1022 Posted July 17, 2017 Still stick with my original thought - Meadowhall stop on the main HS2 makes much more sense. Road / tram / train access already there, plenty of brownfield space and it serves the whole of South Yorkshire.  Now we get just more capacity going through a town centre station already struggling for infrastructure around it.  Mad.  Putting it in meadowhall defeats the whole idea of the project. Whats the point of shaving 20mins of the length of a journey only to then have to wait in Meadowhall for a tram with your suitcases and then a 20min tram journey into sheffield.  People will just end up getting the normal train. Those who live in S10, 11 and 17??  Manchester / Leeds airports are no where near their town centres yet people commute to London by plane (who can afford to). Blue Day   10 #1026 Posted July 17, 2017 Tinsley have more need to have immediate access to HS2 than the city centre because......?  My God - did you read my post?  South Yorkshire - not just Tinsley - would be served by HS2 at Meadowhall.  Who, apart from business men who live IN Sheffield, will use HS2 from Sheffield station? Will they travel in from Rotherham, Barnsley and surrounding areas?
 Share this content via...

We are (and always will) missing a proper outer ring-road round the city, that would solve quite a number of transport issues but as the peak district is on our doorstep it's never going to happen. Most of the Western side of the Outer ring road didn't get built because it would have caused too many houses to be demolished in Crookes Ranmoor and walkley at a time when there was a ressession. Nothing to do with the peak district and many of the alignments are still there today.
 Share this content via...
