A happy coincidence helped us post record totals this week.

Hillsborough's 4th Birthday Bash added a massive 54 to their record and smashed through the 300 mark too.

Jessica Ennis-Hill's attendance at Hallam to launch the parkrun/Vitality partnership boosted numbers there too.

Graves was only one of four cancellations in the whole country but snow over ice is a tricky combination! Hallam gets a mention in the national figures:-

Hi

Do you do any park runs during the week ? As struggle with Saturday mornings, ?

Hi Beth, Park run is an international organisation and (nearly) all of the runs around the the world are on Saturday mornings (with the exception of Christmas day, New Years day additional runs etc). I don't think the time varies much either.

There are however a great number of running clubs in the Sheffield area who organise group runs. It depends on which area you like to run in, but there's sure to be a group running near you. (I would recommend Steel City Striders as it's my club, but I'm sure the others are nearly as good ;) )

Sorry* Beth the 443 UK parkruns run on a formula of 5 simple things that never change.

1. Saturday at 09:00 (9:30 in N.Ireland & Scotland)

2. 5k distance

3. Timed

4. A local cafe for socialisation

5. Free forever.

*It is possible to register, obtain a personal record and then complete 'freedom' runs on any parkrun course. The 'freedom' run can be completed on any day at any time. In truth they will never be the same as the parkrun experience but it will enable you to compare times with the Saturday at 09:00 runners.

This is the last time we will see the parkrun Points tables which are being discontinued.

Personally I would like to see 1 point awarded for each run in the parkrun year, irrespective of finishing position.

If this method were used at Hallam, not forgetting Rizni Marzook, incredibly in the woman's table Hera Oskarsdottir(Junior) would jump from 832nd to 1st with 29 runs and 0 points! At Graves, Roger Knightley would jump from 658th to 1st, 45 runs, 62 points.

We did the junior run at Graves for the first time. Chilly 4 degrees and some drugs testing might be needed; I`m not sure how the marshalls managed to be so cheerful at that time on a Sunday in that weather!

Hi Beth

Maybe this link can help you find a group to run with. It's from a search I did for S35 on the RunTogether website. RunTogether was created by England Athletics and lists runs from all over the country. You can register and tick to attend any group run you would like to do.

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 11th & 12th March 2017.

103 - Concord, 7th highest attendance

211 - Graves

143 - Graves-Juniors, New Attendance Record +3

282 - Hillsborough, 5th highest attendance

90 - Castle, 2nd highest attendance

782 - Hallam, New Attendance Record +44

Total - 1,611

286 - Rother Valley, 4th highest attendance

87 - Clifton Park, 7th highest attendance

Total - 373

Overall total = 1,984

A bumper turnout in almost perfect running conditions gave us a new record total only 16 short of the 2k benchmark. Graves attendance appears to have been subdued by the Grindleford Gallopers.

Hallam's attendance was 3rd highest in the country:-

Hi Flanker and thanks for your posts which I view with interest being an ex Park Runner now unable to run after having a hip replacement.

Great to see the continuing success of the junior run at Graves !

Question !

When are they going to place a limit on the numbers running at Endcliffe ?

We had great fun at the juniors on Sunday. PBs and certainly a more sensible option than the GG that I did last year!

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 18th & 19th March 2017.

123 - Concord, 6th Highest Attendance

172 - Graves Park

299 - Hillsborough, 2nd Highest Attendance

51 - Castle

608 - Hallam, 11th Highest Attendance in the UK

Total - 1,362

257 - Rother Valley, 7th Highest Attendance

67 - Clifton Park

Total - 324

Overall total = 1,686

Re: Limiting numbers at Hallam - I moved to Graves when they started partly because of high numbers at Hallam, it was then about 250 btw.

But the problem is fraught with difficulties - parkrun is a free event with no 'on the day' run registration, how would they do it?

Identify an alternative venue -

Millhouses is small and roadside running is a no-no.

The Upper Porter Valley, a good location but small and would be congested with 150 runners.

Norfolk Park, a 5 lapper?

Redmires, an out and back?

Limb Valley?

*these comments are my own and I have no official connection with parkrun.

Millhouses roadside a no-no. Why? And couldn`t it be kept within the park?

Graves maybe down a bit as lots of locals running in Dronfield on the Sunday.
