Basic system ....coax and power 2 core for most cctv cameras back to dvr

Cat 5 cable to router OR homeplug type device IF you require remote access

HD System ( eg TVI Cameras 1080p Hikvision )same as above

IP System cat 5 replaces your coax and power and will go to your nvr

You can run cat5 to standard or HD cameras but you will have to use a balun ( a connector on the end of the cable )

Pros and cons

Only fitting TVI at moment as the system is backwards compatible and costs are not much more than basic , max resolution 2.4mp but 3.0mp coming

IP higher resolution up to 4K but no standard ,so one brand may not work with another , may need some network configuration experience to get up and running ...

i really do appreciate you answering ....but this is why i am struggling

this is like trying to read the Guardian in Welsh.. while unicycling backwards..:help:

i really thought i was ok with tech stuff.. and not bad with the DIY but all these words..

In the interests of keeping this very simple, what I would recommend is that you just buy a cheap 4-Channel DVR with BNC connectors.

Just connect the cameras to the DVR in a secure place, and the DVR to a monitor, and then worry about all the internet and viewing on mobile phone stuff later. You can get up and running and secure in a few hours, and if you are a technophobe I suspect you will never bother with all the more complicated stuff. It will be just like the system you used to have, only much better quality images.

Something like this, but you can find cheaper.

Good luck.

thanks for the reply...

i'm not a technophobe(well i never thought i was till just now)

but i do like to subscribe to the 'KISS' formula.. less to go wrong i find

didn't want to have to run cables all round the house and everything i looked at had cabling diagrams akin to the London tube map (even the wifi options )

:help::thumbsup:

I don't know where you're based but i know someone who has had a two camera system similar to the maplins one, bought and installed by and alarm engineer for £300.

Has anyone used the Maplins CCTV installation service? Were you pleased with the job?

Does anyone have recommendations for installers based in Sheffield/South Yorkshire? Thanks.

Hi

Looking for some advice in the way of CCTV.

Basically I want to put some up around my property. There's quite a few options online and not sure which to go for.

A lot of the CCTV packages don't come with a hard drive and I'm also unsure what size hard drive I would need.

Any advice would be awesome! Thank you!

I bought an ankke which came out pretty well on test and reviews, it has POE which means the cameras are powered by the Ethernet cable from the stand alone hard drive.

The recorder just loops every month, which means it records over itself.

I have 4 cameras set up,they provide everything, you can even get the app for free and watch on your phone from anywhere. Its 1080p and has black and white infra red at nights. Quality of cameras are great. Date, times on video too.

Cost was about £145:00,dead easy to set up.

Its been working now for over a year with no issues what so ever. A great buy.

Hope this helps

Hi

Can anyone recommend a cctv specialist to come out and do a quote?

Over the end of last week have had 2 precious bikes and tools stolen.

Ideally want to get something sorted asap.

I also need someone to make repairs to a security gate etc..

Thanks in advance.
