Happy Daddy   10 #1 Posted November 28, 2016 Maybe legal action, hopefully not but I need to make Rotherham hospital do their job. My son has been in constant pain for 7 weeks, dropped almost 2 stone in weight ans has not kept a meal down for over a month. The hospital have run some tests then sent him home with instructions to go back to the GP. My son was in so much pain he had to go back, was made to wait a total of 13 hours in the waiting room then sent back home. We went back again and we demanded they do something so they admitted him, sent him home after one night with super strength painkillers that simply do not touch the pain (we are talking morphine here) and now we are having to take him back to the A and E as the pain is getting worse and worse. I need to hospital to do their job and find out what is going on. How can I make them?
 Share this content via...

tinfoilhat   11 #6 Posted November 28, 2016 It might be worth contacting their Patient advice and liaison service  But bear in mind their reason for existing is to cover the hospitals back, not to help patients. Theyll listen but thats about it.
 Share this content via...
Obelix   11 #7 Posted November 28, 2016 Have you taken him to the GP? An emergency dept will treat the symptoms and get him stable but if he needs a referral to a specialist then the route is via the GP.
 Share this content via...

Happy Daddy   10 #9 Posted November 28, 2016 if he"s in that much pain surely its a 999 job.ambulance let them sort it.  Thats how he got to A and E today. By ambulance  ---------- Post added 28-11-2016 at 12:46 ----------  Have you taken him to the GP? An emergency dept will treat the symptoms and get him stable but if he needs a referral to a specialist then the route is via the GP.  The GP has referred him to tests, however these are in 6 weeks time. He needs them now but apparently the GP is unable to hurry the process up or prescribe anything strong enough to tackle the pain  ---------- Post added 28-11-2016 at 12:46 ----------  If your son is under 16 take him to Sheffield Children's Hospital  He is
 Share this content via...
dangerousedd   10 #10 Posted November 28, 2016 (edited) if he wasn't in such a bad way id suggest changing gp surgeries, but maybe your present gp might be more receptive now your sons been to a&e.  you could allways call your gp and ask for an home visit if you think your son is really ill. I know the gps in sheffield can refer you to the northern general hospital amu unit for immediate admission, must be something similar in rotherham. tinfoilhat   11 #11 Posted November 28, 2016 Has anybody (be it he GP or the hospital) run any tests to rule anything out? Can they say what it isnt?
 Share this content via...
feargal   21 #12 Posted November 28, 2016 Do you know where he's going for his tests yet? If you've had the referral but are waiting for an appointment, try ringing them and asking (nicely!!) to be notified of possible for cancellations or short noticed appointments.
