  1. Hi Acorns, thank you so much for your message! If you see him again do you think you could approach him and maybe try and get him inside your house so we can come round and see if it's him? He is very shy but if he's feeling out of sorts then he may let people approach him. It would just be so amazing to know it is him and that he is ok. Did you get a flyer in your post box yesterday? We covered a large area but didn't do the Priory Road side of Kenwood Park so we'll do that side today. I'll pm you my phone number in case you spot him again. xx ---------- Post added 17-11-2013 at 12:13 ---------- And he's back!!! He came strolling in late at night like nothing ever happened. Very hungry and thirsty but totally fine. He's got a lot of explaining to do! We were asleep on the sofa gearing up for a 4am search around the area. We'd been searching mornings and evenings each day to no avail and thought it might be better to do it when everything is at its quietest. We also distributed the contents of our hoover in the front and back garden so maybe the smell encouraged him home? So happy to have him back!!
  2. Our beautiful Harry has been missing since wednesday november 13th. We last saw him at 11 am. We're having some building work done on our house so I think he might have gotten fed up of the noise and people as he's quite a shy cat. He's a neutered male, 4.5 years old and fully black with a hint of ginger when the sun shines on him. He's microchipped and is wearing a black velvety collar with a bell. He's quite slender but has a bit of a pouch belly. He's the sweetest thing ever and we miss him terribly. We've asked loads of neighbours and have looked around a lot of gardens but no joy so far. We feel so guilty as we had been debating whether to put him in a cattery while the building works are happening so he doesn't get traumatised but we're obviously too late with that. I will make some flyers today and distribute them. Have also rang our vets. Any advice would be very welcome. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb174/btiddles/Harry.jpg
  3. Muchos gracias for the suggestions; will make some calls tomorrow!
  4. We are looking to have our very large 3 eater sofa upholstered but it can't leave the house anymore. We got it in through an old sash window which has now been replaced with a mock sash insert. I rang around a few upholstery places in Sheffield but no-one seems to have the facilities to come to the house and do the job. Any ideas?
  5. We just got our old gasfire and surround knocked out and it turns out that the old fireplace behind it is curved at the back. We were going to have a hearth made off-site out of quarry tiles by a company in Stockport but because of the curve it will be very costly. I'm thinking it would be easier to have it done on-site. Anyone tilers out there interested in doing it?
  6. I can highly recommend a plasterer called Fraser. Very professional, nice guy and just very good at his job! We hired him to do a ceiling in 1 bedroom but have asked him back quite a few times since. He's also a good joiner and does other general building work. 07855708833
  7. I've had a lot of lessons from Rich and I can highly recommend him, he's a brilliant teacher: DRUM LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS I have 20 years experience of which 15 years playing live gigs and festivals all around the world with established bands. My style of drumming varies from rock ('n' roll) to punk, pop and dance. My approach to teaching is based on practical methods, very hands-on and I can teach you many rudiments and techniques. I will also show you how to tune a drum kit and will teach you the right posture. I have a rehearsal room in S3, Shalesmoor, with 2 ludwig drum kits ready to play (so no swapping over) or I can travel to you if you prefer. Rates are £15 per hour but your first lesson will only be £10. Contact me if you are interested! on: bang-the-drums@hotmail.com Rich.
  8. We're looking for someone who can do some work in our kitchen: there's a crack in the ceiling that needs repairing; plaster is coming off the walls in certain places so needs repairing; we've had the boiler replaced recently and it still needs hiding away (a small sliding door maybe?) and then the whole kitchen needs to be painted. Any recommendations? We live in S7. Thanks!
  9. Looking for a professional who can sand, restore and stain my wooden floors. It's 1 big room (lounge and dining room knocked through). I've looked online but the only company I can find in Sheffield is Harper flooring. Does anyone have any experience with them?
  10. Yeah I've seen Skeletons quite a few times too, great band! Did you know the bassplayer from Skeletons and the singer from Strange and Partners are brothers? I hope they both do well!
  11. We have just bought a 4 bed Victorian semi, built in the late 1880's. It's in good condition but needs a lot of insulating. It feels cold at night, even in the summer, the house just doesn't seem to keep any heat inside. Any help/ advice regarding the following would be hugely appreciated: -Crawlspace: There's a full blown cellar underneath the hallway and kitchen but a 3/4 foot crawlspace underneath the living/ dining area. The floorboards in that area feel very cold at night so I assume there is no insulation there. There does not seem to be any access to the crawlspace from the cellar though so I assume we'd have to lift some floorboards to get underneath? Does anyone have any idea what the cost would be to insulate this area? -Loft insulation: Will be getting a quote from British gas soon hopefully. Are there any other local companies who do this? I am aware of the grants that are available for this. -Cavity wall insulation: I assume there are no cavity walls in a 1880's property so scrap that one. Any experiences with insulating outer walls? -Double glazing: The property is in a conservation area (Nether Edge) so if we want double glazing we'll have to go for sash windows. I am requesting some quotes from local companies. Are there any companies to avoid? -Combi-boiler: The radiators are in good condition but the boiler is very old school and not efficient. There's a huge tank on the top floor. Am requesting a quote from British gas for a new boiler. Would love to get quotes from other companies too but there's so many out there, it's like a jungle! Any recommendations? Also, which boilers do I need to avoid? Sorry for the overload of information....just want to get some stuff sorted before the winter kicks in. Thank you!
  12. Hi Nick Smith, could I ask you which company you hired to do these mock sash windows?
