  1. Does anyone know if the new broomgrove road gardens apartments ( which are being built a long side university buildings and student accommodation campus ) are for families or couples to buy or are they up market for students or professionals. Would like to know as my grandparents want to move back to Sheffield, but there are so many students in the broomgrove area.
  2. I love reading these stories, please keep them coming. :-)
  3. Hello Spoons. There have already been many posts on the Sheffield Forum about the disaster and they all get closed by the moderators.
  4. Tunwell Drive was what we used to call new parson cross ( or posh part ha!), I lived half way down Deerlands Avenue Halifax Road running at the top of Deerlands Avenue. It was a 5 mins walk to grenoside. My sister inlaw lived on Colley Road. I don't know much about New Parson Cross, occasionally I used to walk to Margetson Shops. I thought it was such a long away from where I lived (it wasn't of course, this was through a childs eyes.)
  5. I was born after the war, but my brother tells me a german airman came to our door and asked for water. My mother who was in a shelter in the garden was petrified to come out. He left and I don't know what happened after that. I assume he was shot down and stumbled on the housing estate which is Parson Cross. I would love to hear if anyone knows of this story. My mother died 1950 so I only have my brothers side. He was in the shelter at the time with other neighbours. If anyone wants to know more I will ask my brother to write the story.
  6. Hi all, I came from the Parson Cross (Deerlands Avenue, Halifax Road end) went to foxhill and meynell road during the 50's. I remember Mr Hewitt as the headmaster at Foxhill. Does anyone remember the Gillott`s, Blands, Coopers,Fletchers, Kings. I would love to know where all the off springs are now. We were the first in our house on Deerlands Avenue, I wasn't born then, but I do remember it was a nice area to live in when I was growning up. There were cornfields on the corner of Yew Lane and Chaucer Road. I used to walk to Backedge and sledge down the hill with cardboard. I thought this was wonderful. I remember batchelors peas there with loads of peas in the lorries. We used to climb up on the open lorries and take a handful. Does anyone remember the liquorice shop (2 for a 1p) and dipping them in rainbow crystal. I can still taste it now. Now and again I would go to the youth club in Chaucer Close (St Celia`s). I was never a regular as I never attended church. Would love to read your comments.
  7. I have had a phone call and letter from LCI Travel. I thought there was something funny about anyone trying to give a holiday away. I questions the person who phoned me and they had all the right answers. Nevertheless, I am not going. After reading all the reviews, my intuition was right. I hope someone who is running this company will read all these reviews. Keep the good work going Sheffield Forum.
  8. Just to clear up any confusion. This is really CAT631. My wife, in her wisdom has decided to put her ramblings on the Forum and her screen name is coming up instead of mine. Bare with me until I sort it. Why can't women stick to cleaning and ironing?
  9. Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. Is anyone ready for a few more beers together? Shall we try the Ball this time and may I suggest Friday 21st March? Hello Steve H did you live in the last house before Wincobank Hill and next to the allotments? I'm Ralph Aspinall and lived a few doors from Mike and Dave Rawson. Hello nmr1, I went to the same schools along with Ken Towell and Geoff Cottam, both of Lloyd Street. Do you know them? THIS is CAT631
