  1. Any designer worth their salt will have a CV and portfolio online (like I do!). Clients use my previous projects to assess if I'm the designer they want for their project. We then have a meeting, discuss their requirements and get started! Being asked to produce speculative work is something I simply don't have time for and it's a practice the industry is keen to discourage. If your designer has time to work for free then they're obviously not hired that often. It's that simple.
  2. Problem is, as you can get a fairly reliable emulator it's more for nostalgia buffs/collectors. I'd take it but I've got no space. And the emulator... Best bet is ebay!
  3. If you can track down a copy of powerdvd 7 ultra (ultra part is important) you'll be able to watch HD DVDs as well. The remote might be a dead loss, but the cyberlink remote is about £15 with shipping. Make sure it's the silver oblong one, and not the weird curvy version, that's old. You can also integrate it with windows media player fairly well. Worth a look.
  4. OS X can recognise PC truetype, but not Type 1 or postscript fonts. Open Type is universal (.otf) and suitcase files (collections of fonts in one file - .suit) can only be read by Macs. Copying a typeface from Mac to PC is straightforward, although with newer operating systems you have to actively install the font, just copying to the fonts folder does nothing. I recommend something Extensis Suitcase Fusion, which I use on my PCs.
  5. Just curious... but why MS Works?
  6. I prefer (and have the) black, but as it has no bearing on performance.... get what you feel is best!
  7. deepburner is pretty good, and free, but that just burns DVDs, no encoding. What exactly do you want to do with it?
  8. Thing is, a lot of these "opera stars" have never actually been IN an opera. Katherine Jenkins and Russel Watson et al sing in an operatic style, but have yet to appear on stage. And Opera is what my dad does for a living, and has done for the past 30+ years. I can tell the difference! Oh, and it's much easier for opera singers to switch to pop songs - a solid singing technique is adaptable, it's just a change in style. Untrained poptarts don't have the solid base to work from, and so struggle and/or wreck what voice they have.
  9. All of it.... Although. Frasier: Thankyou Niles, you're a good brother and a credit to our profession. Niles: Thankyou. You're a good brother, too.
  10. To be honest, I find the website quite stressful to look at. There's simply too much going on, and I feel no compulsion to try reading it all - you only have a few seconds to hook viewers and there's no hook on this page. What's your message? I'm afraid the site doesn't look professional at all, let alone "enough". I'd recommend other experts on here to list some resources for you to look over, which might help you structure your content better. My advice would be sites like SmashingMag http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ You've made a start, and that's good, but it just needs refinement and polishing.
  11. In iTunes' preferences, make sure that the rip setting is for high quality MP3. Edit>Preferences>General>Import settings Now, if you right click any file in your iTunes library it will give you the option "convert to mp3" (Or "Create MP3 version"). Select all files in your iTunes library and select this. Any non-DRM files will have now (well, after processing) an MP3 equivalent. Next, right click at the top of the library (where it says name/album/length etc...) and make sure "kind" is ticked. Then, arrange tracks by kind and get rid of your AAC encoded tracks (although I'd advise not permanently!). Presto. MP3 library. No extra software needed.
  12. Best thing to do is contact the helpdesk. Closing.
  13. The best deals from 02 are actually the business ones, upgrade after only 12 months and next day replacement if it's knackered as part of the tariff...
  14. From a sales angle, how you present yourself to potential customers - the market segments you're aiming for - can greatly influence your pricings.
