  1. Yes I see what you mean, I guess they are being swallowed up by Sheffield but both are traditionally Derbyshire villages and still have that village mentality. Ridgeway is often forgotten but it's a beautiful little place to live in. Public transport links are very poor given its proximity to Sheffield but then peasant wagons were never for me.
  2. Ridgeway and Dore are both villages on the outer edges of Sheffield. One is in Derbyshire and the other used to be in Derbyshire.
  3. Yes, the same goes for any desirable area. Unless you have a large family family and need a big house most areas have some properties which are affordable to most. The way the property market is at the moment its not hard for those on a moderate income to find affordable (but small) property in what are generally affluent areas.
  4. The only place I would think about moving to at the moment is Whirlow. I've lived at Manor, Ridgeway and Dore. Ridgeway and Dore are equally as nice and I'd recommend both villages to anyone.
  5. If the schools can't educate them then I don't fancy our chances. Gates and electric fences around S17 for me.
  6. We can give it try. Maybe some machine gun turrets surrounding the area too. Anything to keep out the ghetto-dwellers and prevent access from the S8 and S7 areas.
  7. Can we have secure entry gates at the Abbeydale Rd/Abbey Lane junction to keep the ghetto-dwellers out too?
  8. It may or may not be related but I drove up Prince of Wales Road an hour ago and 4 of their super traffic cars were parked with the lights flashing blocking off the road at the bottom with LIDL (or whatever it is) on it. As I got further up almost at Manor Top an unmarked car pulled out from a side road with the sirens going and sped through Manor Top.
  9. I'm with British Gas so it can't be supplier but the things that were happening were exactly the same at around the same time as you. It happened quite severely twice in a 15 minute period for around 30 seconds each time after which I switched everything off for 10 minutes. Then I switched everything back on and it happened once again then stopped other than some mild dimming of the lights for a further 20 minutes. I never asked the neighbours about it but I looked out of the window once I switched everything off and never noticed anything unusual in the windows across the road. My mobile phone went to "Limited Service" even though I had full strength signal for about 5 minutes but I can't see how power problems would affect that.
  10. You aren't the only one, the same thing was happening here at the same time! My PC speakers were making a horrible humming and crackling, the lights were flickering and the PC actually went off before I had chance to turn it off. I had actually fallen asleep and was awaken from my little nap by the chaos and wondered what the hell was going on! I woke up to loud strange noises and badly flickering lights.
  11. Firstly, your assumption that if you leave the kids alone then they won't bother you is very naive. What do you think all the people who have been victims in this area have been doing to the kids? Secondly, I am concerned that you disregard the views of members like myself who have actually lived on the Parklands in favour of a few visits to the area. If the views of those who have living experience in the area are not enough then you should contact South Yorkshire Police who will be able too fill you in on what exactly goes on in the Parklands development. I quickly realised that the Parklands is seen as rich pickings and an easy target for those in the nearby council estate. I wish you luck in your new home and look forward to hearing your views on this area early next year.
  12. I'm glad you feel safe there and I'm sure there are plenty others there who do and aren't aware of what goes on but my apartment has windows (one of the lucky ones who still has the original glass in them) and my neighbours have mouths. Basically its a high risk area in terms of crime, some may never fall victim and others most certainly will. It's your risk to take. I am glad to be out of there.
  13. I moved recently and used Avante Removals (01142888314) and they did a good job and were friendly and helpful during the move and over the telephone when arranging it. They charged £38 per hour which worked out well for me as I was moving a short distance with not a lot of stuff. I think they are able to do fixed priced quotes as well.
  14. Avoid this area like the plague! I have just moved off the Parklands development after 6 months of being there. I couldnt wait to get out and neither could the majority of my neighbours there either. During my 6 months there I have seen volumes of crime you would not believe inluding my car being broken into twice and another 5 car break ins in my block alone that I am aware of. The area is currently being monitored by the police due to the high volumes of crime reported there in a short space of time. Fortunately I lived in a second floor apartment up out of the way of their stone throwing etc but unfortunately I could not take my car up with me! If you have no car and don't need to go out after 4pm then you may well be ok but you have been warned. Good Luck.
