Recommendations/warnings for places to adopt rescue cats?
bob1 replied to rayocean's topic in Sheffield Pet Owners
The Sheffield Cat Shelter (http://www.thesheffieldcatsshelter.org/) was where we got ours a couple of years ago. They were brilliant - only showed us cats that were appropriate for our family so that we didn't fall in love with ones that wouldn't have been happy in our home or safe with the kids. Really helpful and gave us lots of time and space to decide and think about things. I would highly recommend them -

Hi, I'm looking for someone who repairs brass instruments - there are a couple of frozen valves on a french horn that I've not been able to sort out. I've heard good things about a chap called Keith Burdett based in Sheffield, but can't find any contact details. Does anyone know how I can contact him, or someone else who does this type of work? Many thanks

Sheffield half marathon place 2013
bob1 replied to georgiawill's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Yes, it is a shame, I can't see how it's so much less than last year - runner's world says there was 7500 last year. It might be because the Leeds half is on the same day, so runners between here and Leeds who might do both in a year are opting for the slightly flatter Leeds course, although I read that the Leeds course isn't very pretty. I've not decided yet whether to do it - it would be quite a historical one to do, and it's always fun -

Totally agree about Ponds Forge being really cold water. Hillsborough can sometimes be cold, but it's not as bad, and there's loads for the kids to see -
Where can I hire a carpet cleaner?
bob1 replied to Stiffmyster's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The rug doctor at Morrisons (and I guess from anywhere else) was disappointing. Or maybe I just didn't get the strong enough detergent. Bits of the carpet looked a bit cleaner afterwards, but it didn't tackle any stains, and even with the attachments, getting right up to the edge wasn't easy or effective -
Teachers' qualifications are in line with other graduate professions. As is their salary. In addition, their leave provision is disproportionately generous. This combination is what makes the frequency with which they strike irritating. It displays an impressive greed and lack of understanding of the wider society. It also suggests a significant lack of awareness of other methods of initiating change.

Breastfeeding in public- disappointed in people's attitudes
bob1 replied to butterball's topic in General Discussions
If men bottle feeding a baby happened to make you feel uncomfortable can you imagine ANY man offering to scuttle off to a nearby toilet to feed their child to increase the comfort of your journey? Particularly when your problem could be fixed by looking in a different direction? Neither can I. So why should we? -
Useful vs useless items re baby buys
bob1 replied to lil peachums's topic in Sheffield Parenting Group
Re a section, the op itself really wasn't bad. Because I'd already been given epidural I didn't feel anything, other than a bit nauseous during the op and was awake for the whole thing. Also other half was allowed to stay and we could hold hands. It was just as joyful and emotional an experience when baby was born as any other birth, because when you see their face how they get there blurs away a bit. Takes a little while to recover, but because the focus becomes getting a good feeding and sleeping pattern for baby, your mind doesn't seem to focus on it too much. -
