  1. Any advice on frogs. In the summer I often find one in the cellar which I put into the garden. Now I have a small family of them. A large one, the teenager, the toddler and the baby who's the size of my thumbnail. Yesterday baby looked flat (I hadn't stood on him) he moved a little but I thought he was dying. Today he looked plumper and I wondered if he was dehydrated so I put him in a saucer of water. He seemed quite happy and sat up. Teenager hopped off and I put toddler in the saucer as well. He then hopped out into a small hole in the wall and sat watching me, which answered my question as to how they got into the cellar. I left them to it but wondering why I have frogs at different stages of growth when I thought they spawned in the Spring. What they feed on in the cellar I have no idea as I haven't seen any insects. So any advice please.
  2. I have forgotten my password to access the stories. How do I get it back? carose

  5. I liked it. I enjoy reading a bit of silliness, rather than reading something too stuffy or serious.I like to be entertained and this entertained me.
  6. Replying to myself and anyone else who read my garbled query. Eureka, managed it and I have now succeeded in reading my own stiory on line. Hope anyone who reads it, will enjoy it.
  7. Not sure if I am doing this right but here goes. I have uploaded a story and this is the link that I have to post, I think, so that others may read it. http://sheffieldwriters.ath.cx/SFStoryArchive/1314871401.doc
  8. Hi. I am also new to this part of the forum but have been writing since 97. Firstly poetry but have dabbled into short stories songs and plays. I have lots on my computer and would like to share them with some new readers. I have been a member of Glass Mountain writers, based at Crystal Peaks library since its conception 10 years ago and we are a mixed bunch. Everyone welcome there on Thursday afternoons 2-00 - 3-30 ish.

  10. For anyone wanting to use the Sheffield archives. They have been closed for nearly a year for a major refurb [ or at least updating the aircon system in the strong room ] but will be re-opening on Monday the 5th of September 2011. For anyone wanting to do some research, it will probably be busy after all that time, so you may need to book a machine [fiche, film reader or computer ] depending upon what it is you are researching. As the new series of 'Who Do You Think You Are' has recently started, this also means that more people decide to look into their family history, so increasing the demand. If visiting for the first time, you will need some proof of identity i.e a utility bill etc.
  11. Hi Dene, I have 3 great uncles who died in WW1. One born in Shefffield and 2 at Hemingfield nr Wombwell although when they were in the war, the family had moved to Sheffield. Would you be interested in these two also? I do have information on them all. I have looked through your folders in the Local studies but there isn't any info on them in there. Good Luck with the project, Carose
  12. Yes, we meet every week all year round and have been going for 10 years. Member numbers have varied from 20 sometimes to around 8 in the summer months. We are very friendly, ordinary down to earth Sheffield folk. A variety of writing from poetry, plays, short stories, monologues and anything else you want to write about. We have a slot in the Sheffield "Off the Shelf Festival' in October Think its the 23rd but its in the book [available free from libraries ]and takes place in the Art Space at Crystal Peaks. Its free and we would love to see more audience there especially as folk singer and poet Ray Hearne is compering it.
  13. Cuttsie, you should join our writers group at Crystal Peaks on a Thursday 2-00 -4-00 if you can write like that
