  1. I've never been armoured with the way Sheffield City Council runs the city but I'll take that over a Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson or Sadiq Khan type anyday.
  2. Quite possibly one contractor resurfaces main roads (5cm) & another resurfaces the minor estate roads (3.5cm).
  3. I actually saw resurfacing teams working this morning in the Sheffield Lane Top area. So either the bill has been paid or Amey use more than one subcontractor.
  4. You're not the first person to make that observation. I know of others that watched the resurfacing being done & they were amazed at how thin the the tarmac layer was. That might not be Amey's or their sub contractors fault though. They might be resurfacing exactly to the Councils specification & its the council who have specified the thickness of the tarmac in order to keep the contract costs down.
  5. I would have thought that the contract between SCC & Amey would be quite specific in terms of the procedures & standards to be used when resurfacing the roads. EG how much top surface will be scraped off the existing & the depth & quality of tarmac used to replace the surface. While the incidence of newly resurfaced roads already deteriorating might be Amey not adhering to the contract, it's more than likely that the standards & specifications set by SCC are at a very low level in order to achieve the lowest possible contact cost.
  6. I believe a new rising water main is being installed.
  7. Veolia didn't finish the modernisation of the old incinerator, they built a completely new one. Despite SCC spending upwards of £40m to modernise the old incinerator it wasn't fit for purpose & couldn't meet current emissions legislation. Any profit made by Veolia from bringing in waste from surrounding areas has to be shared with SCC under the terms of the contract. At the end of the current contract the ownership of the incinerator is supposed to be handed back to SCC. I'm don't know how this will be affected if the contract is terminated early.
  8. Noticed it Xmas eve too. It looked as though it had been patched up later in the day. Amey's usual standard of work then if it's reappeared.
  9. If Veolia are short of drivers they tend to initially take them on a temporary basis from an agency. Best bet would be to ring them & find out which agency they use.
  10. It definitely is the Derek Dooley Way shooting. There was a thread on here when the police convoys first started a couple of weeks ago.
  11. I was already of the opinion that we should leave the EU so the Greece vote has had no bearing whatsoever.
  12. All forums showing last "100" days except Sheffield Interest Groups which is "from the beginning". This is using an iPad.
  13. Sheffield Councillors have proved on numerous occasions that they are miles out of their depth with the powers they already have. Anything that gives Sheffield Councillors further powers would be a complete & utter disaster for our already ailing City.
