  1. Here is what I have found in my job search over the past few months. Your CV has to basically regurgitate the info posted for the job. This unfortunately is the system unless you network. i.e. I have 10+ years of experience in NewMedia & Broadcast. I have been art director/producer/mangager, etc. But if I dont specifically say that I am a Project Manager, or Creative director, and then list the EXACT points they are looking for, then its in the rubbish bin. With this much experience I personally feel that the person hiring would be able to look at it and get the point of what I can do. The fact is that Recruiters & H.R., and even hiring managers (which is unfortunate if this is the case) do not know how to hire outside of the strict list they are given. Recruiters are afraid to do so as they seem to give the wrong people to the company, and HR does not have life experience. i.e. if they never worked in print & new media they would not see talent and the potential for a good print artist to transition into motion graphics, if that is their desire. (which i have done before) so basically you have to tailor your CV and your cover letter for each potential job. In my case I would not only have to write 4+ cvs and cover letters, but customize each one to match to the exact information they list. (Its almost a point where you want to cut and paste the info.) I have actually started sending out my info directly in the field to which is relevant. And if they dont get it, no need to work for them. So, the best to you. Peace dalen
  2. dont feel to bad, its not that easy. I have had the wierdest experiences trying to find work in the U.k. while living on mainland europe. (I have a large family, so trying to take care of business before the move in May.) I have hired before and feel I had an eye for talent. (Typically I sought out and hired my own people, not depending on recruiters or H.R.s assistance as they could never see the potential in the candidates.) Im in the creative field, and for example I saw in one candiadate excellent print/design skills and hired him as a motion graphic designer. (Which he really sucked at to begin with, but he never did it before...however once he was trained, he did some award winning stuff.) Having came from a print background I knew what potential there was in his work. But typically recruiters, hr, and even, shamefully to say, creatives dont know how to spot potential in people to get the best candidate. They rely on robotic hiring methods. I say all that to say, I hear you, and know where your coming from. Something will for sure work out for you, so try not to stress. The best to you Peace dalen
  3. To whom it may concern, I am seeking a role as a Sr. Producer/Project Manager. (Specifically in Sheffield if possible as I will physically be living there as of May 17th.) For 10 years I have been involved in Print/New Media & Broadcast. The past 5 years as a Sr. Producer & Manager of New Media/Broadcast. My family and I moved back to Europe last July on Sabbatical, (which I was able to support myself through the stock market during my time in Hungary.) Sabbatical is over, and I hold plane tickets for the U.K. where we plan to settle with our four children. I have full working permission within the U.K., and can take up employment immediately upon entering the country. My experience includes quite a bit of project management experience. Not only have I managed/produced multiple projects, but I have led both creative & technical teams across different media depts for various productions. (This led to the merger of the New Media Department with the Broadcast Dept.) You will also find that I have extensive experience developing budgets as well as creating & leading new depts. I have worked not only in internal roles at internationally recognized companies such as WebMd.com, and In Touch Ministries, but with leading agencies in Atlanta, GA. (IXL, Gilbert Creative, whose portfolio list include a wide spectrum of international clientele.) My client facing skills include liaising within the Christian Music Industry to produce interviews and live music videos. (Below are links to some examples.) http://www.intouch.org/teen/hangin/videoEverman.html http://www.intouch.org/teen/hangin/videoDownhere.html http://www.intouch.org/teen/TCMain.html Also, one of my latest endeavors include the development of an online institute. This included vendor negotiations for C.M.S., directing the development of the a/v portion of the site, as well as working directly with the president to ensure he became the face for the institute which bares his name. http://www.charlesstanleyinstitute.com/portal/home.html Lastly, I reported to the V.P. of Communications & Marketing for the re-branding process of the core web site before my taking my leave to move to Europe. http://www.intouch.org I look forward to talking with you about any available positions. Kind Regards, Dalen Johnson dalen@dalen.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8816 7073 http://www.dalen.co.uk dum spiro, spero {while i have breath, I hope}
  4. Would love to post, but after over 5 attempts of registering, I keep getting an error message. Kind Regards dalen
  5. it may seem that way, but you would be surprised how many people open up and say things not relevant to the job itself, or leave the weakness as such (with no explanation or example within a company how they improved it) and that can reflect negatively.
  6. Non flexibility. Somone who is a perfectionist may sound nice...if they are of same mind as the whole team, but apart from the team they can really cause some strife going there own way "perfectly" getting things done.
  7. More than likely, if this is an issue, they will see it. Personality comes through in an interview to a certain degree. Try not focusing on it, and if it is an issue, then work on it. Read a previous post...you will have better success pulling out a weakness that is toned down and one that you are working on or better yet overcame. They are interested in your strengths and what you can bring to the company. Negative traits stick out...no need to harp on anyone specific trait. Best Regards dalen
  8. Having been a Team Leader I can tell you one thing about this question. If you answer only contains a weakness, that can be a potential problem. What they want to hear is that you are not weak. What I mean is simply this. Name a weakness, and how you overcame it or are working to improve it. To name a weakness and to leave it at such is not the best when interviewing. Best Regards dalen
  9. thanks for the good wishes. My one question is if you are eating Salmon 3xs a week, maybe that market is already saturated? (Although we would focus on wild Alaskan Salmon, fresh never frozen when in season, and when out of season - freshly frozen) thanks for the reply
  10. Hello, Many of you have seen my post in other forums about trying to move to Sheffield in the next few months. My wife and I are pondering what type of services currently lack in Sheffield, which people would like to see. Specifically related to health food/products/cosmetics, etc. I come from Atlanta Ga. originally where we have a whole foods market which you can actually dine in (we did quite often). Its a supermarket beyond most peoples wildest imaginations. It is not vegan, though has great vegan choices. Point being, the first one of these shops will open in London in 2007. (Sheffield will get one eventually as they have the apple store, Jurlique, etc.) But in the time being, we realize there are already vegan & non vegan food shops. Is there a desire for wild seafood (of course amongst the non- vegans) such as Wild Sockeye Salmon from Alaska? Or a desire for vegan deserts using Carob, Cocoa, Soy, etc.? The question is the area also...but I think I have an idea as to where that would be. Any variations or whatever it is along these lines, that you feel needs an improvement upon...(or is missing) please let us know. Thanks dalen
  11. thank you once again everyone for the replies. This has helped tremendously. I have been using google earth to take a sneak peak into some of the places. Sheffield seems like it doesnt lack for nice areas, or maybe its just the people who make it that way. Either way, we should enjoy our stay. dalen
  12. Thanks for reminding me of this...excellent idea, Im doing now. dalen
  13. which part of sheffield is this in? <s6, etc.> thanks dalen
  14. I havent looked into Barnsley. Im trying to keep the best of both worlds, the nature & city life. I will look into these links, and yes I have seen many complaints about Blundells - however maybe with rent its not that bad. the whole purchasing a house thing is indeed interesting and for other threads for sure. I have never heard of in my life bidding up for property. But, Im not a local, so you find out new ways and learn to work with them. thanks dalen
  15. youwhatref & Sally, thanks for the links...Im taking a look at it now. dalen
