  1. Frederick Street Darnall. We moved to Malvern Road in 1960 when Mum became pregnant with our Andrew
  2. I was in the same class as Kevin Burns, David Waller, Grahame Windle, Kenneth Stinchcombe, Kevin Stones, Julie Hargreaves, Julie Caley, Phil Timms, Phil Pickering. I can see faces but not put names to them anymore. Seems like yesterday but now I'm an OAP.
  3. I can recognize faces but the names have gone in the mist of time. Do you have any other names? I lived next door to the Pasks on Frederick Street and went to school with Trevor. I remember Roger, George, Buster, Melvyn and Susan. Had nowt but happy days
  4. The name Susan Shaw rings a bell. Its such a long time ago. Didn't she knock about with Kevin Burns? Kevin
  5. Thanks for that Mickeyboy. As I said I'm aware of Dunkirk Square but I've looked at old maps for Jones Square as well as Coates Houses on Worksop Road, now Darnall Main Road. It was worth a try and thanks again:thumbsup:
  6. I'm aware where Dunkirk Square was in Darnall. But I have relatives on the 1851 census living in Jones Square. Anyone have ideas as to where it was?
  7. I remember Miss Cocking as head of the infants but in the early 60's .. ie 62, it was Mr Saxon who was head of the juniors. He was a well built bloke probably in his 60's with dark rim glasses. I remember Mrs Machin and everybody remembers Mr Ellis. Good 'ol days .... Kevin
  8. I remember the dog track well. During the school holidays we managed to get in and play about until we heard "Oye" and ran for our lives. Happy Days. Kevin
  9. I originally lived on Frederick Street, next door to the Pask family. We then moved to Malvern Road, a cul-de-sac off Industry Road. I have downloaded lots of black and white photos of the area because it brings back such happy memories. I remember the parades going up Darnall Main Road. It saddens me that they chose to demolish the area as it was a close community. Kevin
  10. I remember a classmate of mine living in the houses just above Davy United's. There was me, the lad in question and Dave Waller together when we noticed a bunch of lads coming up from the path beside Davy United's. We legged it across the road to the council estate and went behind a garage attached to one of the houses. Eventually they caught up with us. I thought we was going to get a beating. One youth got a grip of my mates shirt and I can see the buttons coming off one by one. Pop, pop, pop as his shirt parted company with the buttons. Then the woman of the house opened the back door to see her back yard with 20+ youths in it. "What the hells goin' on here, tek thee hook, lot on yer, go on". So we did after the three of explained why we were there. Narrow escape that night. As you say, happy days Kevin
  11. Nay problem. I lived in Frederick Street and then Malvern Road in Darnall. I remember Coleridge Road and the waste ground that was used by Fun Fairs in the 60's. I remember Stovin Road and Palmer Road. I remember going with Dad a time or two to visit an old couple at the top of one of them. Darnall, Attercliffe, it doesn't matter in the end. Thanks for the response Kevin
  12. Its true, Stovin Road was officially in Darnall. Been up and down it many a time. Had relatives on there but that's a long time ago. Happy days Kevin
  13. Just had a look. It was the Old Cricket Ground at the corner of Vine Road and Darnall Main Road. The next Road was Coventry Road and at the top it had the gates to Darnall Cemetery. It was originally a cricket ground before being turned over for the burial of the dead. Love it ... Kevin
  14. There was a pub at the corner of Vine Road and Darnall Main Road. It may have been called The Vine. I will have to look at some old photo's to find out its name. The New Inn was on the corner of Vine Road and Turin Street. It was not on Darnall Main Road. Kevin
  15. That's a new one on me. I will try that, because I have other relatives from my father's side of the family who's grave I am trying to trace. I would have thought that they would be inundated with calls if that was the case though. There seems to be an increasing number of people tracing their ancestry, especially since the TV adverts for Find My Past and Ancestry. Thanks for the tip Kevin
