  1. Last seen in Sherwood Glen S7 PIC: http://lifejugglers.com/lostcat.jpg He’s a large black and white male short-haired moggy with white chin, chest underneath and paws. Timid when approached, in good health when last seen but now we’re concerned for his welfare. He’s chipped and reported as lost with everyone, but forgot to report him here, so doing it now. I'm wondering if he'd been sharing with someone else in the area and they've moved away and taken him. How do you find out who moved away from S7 on the 13th December? If it were the movies, I'd just type that question into my super computer and get a list of names, but it's not.
  2. Hallam Dance do proper ballet lessons with a Piano. Their classes are in Millhouses, but you'll need to check details with them: 0114 236 0486 ‎
  3. Don't bin it, give it to Lowtech: http://recycle.lowtech.org/ Recycle Your Computers with Lowtech! They say: “Many PC recyclers are just that: recyclers. That means that they take the old machines that you paid good money for just a few years ago, and they smash them up for the small quantity of base and precious metals within them. At Lowtech, that's our very last resort. First, if your old computer is of a reasonably high specification (to us that means a Pentium 233mHz or better) we'll reuse the machine in our Access Space, so that members of the public can use it to learn, create and communicate online. If the machines you give us are of lower specification, we'll do our best to reuse them in Redundant technology Initiative's art projects - which aren't just a lot of fun, they also serve to raise more and more awareness of the issue of technology disposal. We also give surplus machines to local charities and nonprofit groups - but only if we're convinced that the strategy that they have for reusing the machines is legal (we recommend using free, open-source software to avoid the need to pay software licence fees) and genuinely helpful. Recently in our region some projects have distributed low-cost reccyled computers to disadvantaged people. The catch is that they haven't provided useful training and support - so the machines have gone unused. We very much favour giving to schemes which include sustained help and support - which our Access Space model is designed to provide.”
  4. oops, spoke to soon, 15% discount now, not free, but they're still very nice cards. (and for small quantities a great way of getting a professional look)
  5. If you are a LinkedIn member, then Moo Cards will give you 50 free business cards. see: http://www.moo.com/linkedin/ they really are very nice cards: http://www.flickr.com/photos/boldfish/2697660011/
  6. just to clarify, I gave all my old computer bits to Lowtech. Not sure what you're saying terminator?
  7. I found the place: Lowtech at Access Space Sidney Street. so if you have old IT stuff, I'm sure they'd be interested (although not in CRT monitors!) link: http://www.lowtech.org/
  8. I'd like to be sure they get used *for Charity* not for profit, so I'll be looking for someone who can somehow prove their charitableness!
  9. I remember reading about a Computer company in Sheffield that refurbishes old PC's and gives them to deserving causes. I'm now a mac user and have a pile of old hard drives, PC cards, CD writers etc., that I no longer have a need to "keep for spares" they're not worth selling, but might come in handy for a PC rebuilder. anyone know who I might be thinking of? cheers
  10. Hi got the decorators in and they found that one of my door handles is broken. amazingly found one just like it on Ebay (don't bid against me, please...!): http://tinyurl.com/4fczq but it has brass fixings - mine are chromed. I'm sure I can get round that, but on the off-chance (however remote) that someone on this forum has handles like it with chrome plates, I thought I'd put out a call... anyone got this type of handle? any languishing in the shed? thanks.
  11. I'm quite happy to help online for free - but Cycleracer said he was willing to pay and it sounded like he needed someone to visit and set up his computer. Why is it that we'd all happily pay the TV repair man or the plumber or a builder to come and do work for us, but as soon as someone gets a PC they think they shouldn't have to pay for help with it? it takes time to set up a PC, it takes knowledge to do it well (and that takes time to learn) why are people so against paying for computer help? Ho-hum. seems like I'm in the wrong place and have chosen the wrong career. so sorry if I offended anyone.
  12. This might be of interest: http://www.cometconnection.com/ but I haven't tried it so can't say if it's any good.
  13. the answers to the original questions can be found here: http://www.roadsafetyuk.co.uk/histall.htm introduced as a temporary measure, the 70 mph limit was at one point reduced to 50mph in a fuel crisis and made permanent in 1978 when the lower 60mph limit for dual carriageways was introduced. hope this is useful. ;o)
  14. It's the sort of thing I do and charge big companies £350 a day for. whereabouts are you? as someone said, it's important to get the PC protected against nasties before you connect it to the internet. There's plenty of free software to do that, but it all takes time to install. shout if you get to the point where you want to pay someone. (home users get my £28 an hour rate (which is cheaper than a plumber)
  15. Tis true. My other half claims he asked her out. She turned him down as he was a porter and Nurses only went out with Doctors. (late seventies by the way)
