  1. Thank you so much everyone, you've all been brilliant, your questions kept me on my toes and made me write a much more precise piece which is now out in the world. We've made huge strides today, let's see what tomorrow brings! Hope to meet some of you tomorrow too. I'm visiting BBC radio Sheffield and hope to be on air around 0730hrs. Then I'll be at the sculpture on Howard Lane between 0830hrs and 1000hrs, come and say hi. I got to get back to london then to see the Physio about my gammy knee. Address for those that need it here: http://www.facebook.com/saveheavyplant @heavyplant Sleep well and thank you for welcoming me into your forum. Sara xx ---------- Post added 16-06-2014 at 12:29 ---------- Update! Hello everyone, hope some of you heard me on the radio. BBC Radio Sheffield were fantastic. We had some supporters turn up at the site and I met the new sculptor Jason of Heppoart, who had some fantastic ideas. I've got a quote to move and store it for a year, from a professional art company, which is just under £10k plus insurance. Wonderfully the owner is from Sheffield and used to work regularly with David Kemp the artist! It's a small world. He's going to do a site visit and quote for the professional dismantling of it. Does anyone know someone who could donate some wooden pallets? So I'll know the final first installment costs this week. For the new piece we are looking for old stainless steel that can be highly polished to create the new elements. Thanks again and keep the word alive. Does anyone know someone who could help organise things locally? Please get in touch saveheavyplant@gmail.com Best wishes, Sara
  2. I simply don't know the answer. Would love to though, that's why I started this campaign. I'm just a huge fan of it and would hate to see it destroyed. All I know is that the people that run the science park are sympathetic but have no money to do anything about it. I don't know the whys and wherefores. Hoping to find out more on Monday. Would be great if you could investigate. Thanks Sara
  3. We can't all love art and beautiful inspiring sculptures. Each to their own,mThe world needs a mixture of people. It's privately owned, by a company that inherited it. I'd rather it was owned by the community that loves it. They are happy to give it to us if we can raise the funds to move it.
  4. Hi all, if someone else could find out more about what is behind it,nthat would be great. I simply don't have time to do it all alone. I think the most important thing is to find it a temporary home, while a plan is hatched. I will have the labelling and dismantling costs on Monday morning when the office opens. It's fallen into disrepair so needs restoring whatever happens. We need to find another sculptor who is inspired by it Thanks again Sara
  5. Thanks so much for posting the links CGKSheff. Lottery sounds like a good plan for a long term preservation, relocating and re-imagining, but will it be quick enough to mobilise in 7 weeks I wonder. I wanted to find out how much support there is before setting up a crowdfunding page. I'm going to be on BBC Sheffield radio breakfast show, then I'm planning to be at the sculpture between 8.30am amd 10am. Please drop by with ideas. I'm also stupidly busy at the moment and really shouldn't be doing this too. But whenever I think about it being demolished, I know I can't give up. I could really do with some help. I have a PDF I can email to anyone who is happy to try to spread the word. Not everyone is on social media. Yes Shazbat I believe those are the reasons. I also have been given the details of a professional art removal and storage company in Wolverhampton. I'll get a price off them when they open on Monday. Thanks for responding, it's heartening to know other people love it too. See you Monday hopefully. Sara
  6. 7 weeks to save Heavy Plant Howard Lane. Sheffield City Centre I love this sculpture, I've been visiting every year for 17 years. It's name makes me smile and I love it clever, yet raw, beauty. Please read the original press release from 1988 coming soon which tells you more about Despite the best efforts to locate it, there is no public money, so it is to be demolished in August unless we can save it. We have the support of the artist, the owner and the council. This is my proposal: Phase 1 Fundraise to move and store the remaining materials out of harms way. Find somewhere and someone to store it. Phase 2 Raise funding for a new work involving elements of the old one. Find a sculptor and a new location that will have meaning. Maybe a competition. The original artist sadly has Parkinson's. Whatever happens there will be a short film about it, if this takes off I'd like to create interactive piece around it too. However we have seven weeks....we all have busy lives and I need help. I care about Heavy Plant, the question is do enough people care about saving it. I only found out about this on Tuesday afternoon. There is much to do. So far there is a Twitter account @saveheavyplant, Facebook I cannot post a link to the fb until I have made 5 posts... and an email: saveheavyplant@gmail.com So to recap we need to find someone or somewhere to store it. We will need to raise money. Ideas, volunteers and suggestions welcome saveheavyplant@gmail.com. What can you do? Who do you know who can help? Please start with sharing this information. I'm been interviewed on the BBC Sheffield Breakfast programme on Monday morning from 7.30am. Then I will be filming an interview at Heavy Plant at around 8.30am to 10am. Please come and have your say. Email me to let me know you are coming. Saveheavyplant@gmail.com
