  1. Hi Jamie, Thanks for your reply. SEO is the way to go but unfortunately the way the site is designed inadvertently does not allow the Google Spider Bot to trawl the pages of our registered users, so we're hindered a little by that. I have noticed many websites put 'Jobs in [town]' at the footer of their page which is one thing we could look at doing, and expanding on the blogs. I guess like everything it is a slow process that needs to be built steadily on over time. Referrals is definitely something we will be looking at. As a new service we have been offering the services for free whilst we build up a decent customer base. I'll take a look at that link, thanks for the info Cheers Rich
  2. Hello, We launched Jobs4Everyone in South Yorkshire at the end of February and we have had a great start with over 1,000 people now using us to actively look for work and 170 live jobs as of today. But the thing is many of the jobs that we have available are still not being matched to potential candidates, i.e engineering vacancies. And we really need to raise awareness that we have unfilled vacancies on the site. We do not have much of a marketing budget so cannot afford to spend on a proper marketing campaign so we're trying to focus on an online strategy encompassing Facebook, Twitter, etc. But Facebook especially seems to be really slow to take off with only about 70 likes compared to over 800 twitter followers. Does anyone have any experience in growing a Facebook business page or successful ways of increase a websites Google Page Ranking? Thanks Rich
  3. Hi there Blades-eela, I have just called Brinsworth Training and they said they take on apprentices up to the age of 24 so you're not too old! Employers will be interested in taking you on also because they can still access the full amount of funding for you at that age. And even if the market is flooded there are a lot of bad trades people in every industry and so as long as you provide an excellent service to people you will make a success of it and yourself. For a starting point I would called Brinsworth Training, Connexions, Sheffield College and The Source Academy as I know they deal with Apprentices. I hope this helps, good luck!
  4. Hello, I really agree with Karis, I began working on Jobs4Everyone just after university which was to provide a free service for businesses to recruit. But it took over 4 1/2 years to get the project fully off the ground with investment! It is very easy to under-estimate the amount of time it takes to get an online business up and running, but essentially it is still a business just like any other, apart from its 'shop-font' is a web-page. But relationships still have to be forged, contacts made, business models developed and that all takes a lot of time and patience. By all means go for it! But do find out what you're passionate about and follow that! Good luck! Rich
  5. Hi 30secondstos, I run an online employment service called Jobs4Everyone that automatically matches you to suitable vacancies. When you register simply put your desired place of work as Sheffield and then go through the occupation guide to chose the various IT occupations that you're willing to consider. It is a new service but we are growing all the time so if there are no suitable IT jobs immediately, the service will email you as soon as a match is found. It's like a dating site but for jobs! Good luck, btw Sheffield is great!!
  6. Hi SomeGuy, I have just set up an online employment service that matches job hunters to suitable and available vacancies. It's completely free to register and it's free for employers to post vacancies on to too. We're hoping to build up a database of all the available job in sheffield and everyone looking for work and then match everyone up. We're also working with Training Providers and Welfare to Work providers too to get more vacancies on there. Good luck with your job hunting Rich
  7. I've also set up a Google+ page but to be honest I've barely looked at it. It's a lot difficult to get into when no-one seems to be using it!
  8. Hi Everyone, I have been through and liked everyone's pages. As a new start-up company in Sheffield we too have just set up our Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/jobs4everyone. We're trying to keep it updated with latest news etc to make it interesting. I really like what Sheffield Deal of the Dayand Seven Hills First Aid have done with customising the welcoming page! Good luck to everyone, I think it's great how the people of Sheffield all support each other! (coming from Middlesbrough myself!)
  9. Marketing to me is about finding a way of plugging your product or service into the surrounding or related culture that you are targeting. I think this is what separates marketing from advertising. As a new online employment service we are looking to get our name out to employers in the area so they can post vacancies for free and to let job hunters know we exist: So take Facebook for example, an Facebook advertising campaign would entail us paying for adverts to appear on peoples screens so that they hopefully click through and each click would cost us money. Whereas a Facebook marketing campaign would involve using popular culture and social media in a way to drive people to our own facebook page. The main difference to me is an advert stands out like a red dot on a blue background, but marketing just looks like part of the picture that has always been there.
  10. have you anything for Parkwood karting coming up? It's my 30th birthday next week so was going to check with other discount deal websites...
  11. I run an online employment service called Jobs4Everyone that was set up to help people back into work. Over the past two weeks we have been operating inside of the Bailey Court Job Centre Plus on West Street and can honestly say that we have found the staff to be very helpful. We have also had such a positive response from 99% of people seeking work and I think it is unfair how people seem to get labelled and judged upon for signing on. Of course, there is always going to be a minority who for whatever reason try to make the most out of the system but on the whole everyone who we came into contact with were good honest people genuinely looking for work. As for the 'what have you done to look for work this past 2 weeks' comment, this is not the advisers fault but to me seems a way of the DWP trying to standardise the experience that every job seeker has. Due to the loss in funding the Job Centre has seen the time available to spend with each customer has been reduced and so with that unfortunately comes a loss in quality. Just one of those things i'm afraid, not really anyone's fault but the systems[/i]
  12. I would go and see Voluntary Action Sheffield at The Circle, just off Division Street. They will let you talk to a solicitor free of charge who will guide you. Other than that there is always Citizens Advice, but I'd say go to VAS instead as they have qualified legal experts who can help you directly
  13. As a brand new business launched the week before Christmas I'm wishing for peace and good will across the world!
  14. Hello, I just wanted to share with anyone looking at starting up a new business my own personal story of the past 4 years. 4 years ago I began on a journey to go self employed, and last week we finally officially launched. I have written a blog about my own experience of what this was like and what we went through in the hope that it will bring some hope and inspiration to others. Even if you're in the middle of setting up your business or struggling through a rough patch I encourage you to read it as hopefully it will give you that extra boost of energy to keep hangning in there until the better times arrive. My blog: http://4everyone.posterous.com/how-did-jobs4everyone-come-to-be-the-story-of here Rich
  15. Hi Chazco, I completely understand the position you are in, 4 years ago I set off on a journey to become self-employed and it wasnt until last week that we officially launched. As a graduate of Sheffield Hallam myself I also went through the SHU Enterprise and can highly recommend it. At the end of the day though a large part of whether you will make it will come down to how much you really want it. I have just written a blog on my experience of setting the company up and how and why it took 4 years, hopefully you will gain some inspiration from it. You can find it here My advice though, is if you really want it and you are prepared to go through the turbulent times ahead (because life will get tougher!) then you should jump in feet first! Good luck! Rich
