  1. The UK will have to renegotiate all the trade deals which were put in place when we had the strength and attraction of a 500 Million population market place to ensure a good deal. They will have to be renegotiated from a position of weakness, the other party will know how vital it is for us to strike a deal. The UK will have to continue to obey whichever EU laws form part of trade deals involving the EU. EU laws they can disregard will be workers protection, job security, health and safety etc. The money that the UK now pays into the EU budget is a pittance in comparison to the money lost by implementation of Brexit. Do you bother to read other posters comments? Magilla explains in post 2006 above that the 60 Billion that we are going to lose when 'passporting' rights are removed from the City is four times our annual contribution to the EU and fifty percent of the NHS budget. Continuing to remain part of the single market is hugely important to business in the UK, 44% of our exports go to the EU. In order to retain single market access we will have to agree to free movement of labour to and from the EU as at present. As we are not in the Schengen area and current EU rules permit the removal of non nationals after 90 days if they don't have a job and can't support themselves then we have control at the moment. That the UK government doesn't choose to enforce that control is hardly the fault of the EU is it? You claim that you voted Remain, for what reason did you do so?
  2. Same here, taken to the Lane by my dad to " see Hagan play ". You have to laugh at some Wednesday fans high opinion of their own self importance in the scheme of things though. We're suddenly back in love with our club after beating them, it's all about them. This after winning a divisional title by 14 clear points and achieving 100 points in the process. Like you the Blades are and always will be my team, come what may. Sunday was good because it made all the ' pub team ' jibes and assurances about how hard it was going to be for us in the Championship look like the nonsense they were.
  3. For a moment I thought you were saying he was a Scotsman, but as we all know he was a Welsh Wizard, in addition to being one of the Red and White Wizzzaaaarrrrds!
  4. Okay, let's put it to the test shall we? Please explain precisely what the UK will be able to do once free of the EU that it was unable to do whilst a member state. Then explain how that will compensate for the losses which we are going to sustain such as the loss of the £60 Billion + 'Passporting' tax revenue referred to in posts 2006 and 2007 above. That is only one loss we are going to have to take. So go ahead, explain the benefits we are going to get that we didn't have as EU members.
  5. Not sure how many of you know this but Hockey was also a talented drummer. Here he is battling it out with another drummer with inevitable results. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj49Oyx88LWAhWrBcAKHaadBkwQtwIIMzAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D3AZz9TSjZCM&usg=AFQjCNEanAT3YWqN_BseBeftTKbgFyVrwg Not sure about the hair dye job, but I suppose that's rock and roll for you!
  6. I saw Hockey play for Birmingham against us in a night match at the Lane. Remember saying to a mate with me at the match that that little bearded git is a right nasty piece of work. However, when we signed him shortly afterward I realised that I was mistaken in that conclusion and in fact Trevor was simply competitive to a high degree and committed to the cause. It's amazing how first impressions can be so badly wrong.
  7. I was there that day with my future mrs. We got in but they shut the turnstile behind us and the couple we were with were locked out with several thousand more! What happened was that Ted Helmsley got injured and was replaced by Gil Reece and the bench were screaming at Geoff Salmons to get back and replace Ted. Salmons was having a great game and deliberately ignored the bench. Poor old Gil was a terrific winger but couldn't tackle a fish and chip supper and he stood there transfixed as Best ran past him and scored. Many years later I was on my way from Rotherham to Doncaster on business when I decided to call in for lunch at a pub somewhere half way between. To my surprise the landlord turned out to be Geoff Salmons. " I've got a bone to pick with you " says I. After I'd had a right go at him for dereliction of duty he burst out laughing shook his head and said " You Blades, you never forget do you? " Came across as a decent bloke and told me a few tales about the rest of the lads at that time.
  8. The people who voted out were the ones who had no concept of the workings and benefits of the EU, nor of the consequences to the country of leaving. That fact has been proven on this forum beyond doubt, because not one Brexiteer can provide a rational and reasoned argument for their action. As for you. not only are you unable to understand what purpose a forum serves as you continually 'beg' for an end to debate, you also have no idea what constitutes a troll. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwilibajxMLWAhUJCcAKHX6AD-EQFghRMAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lifewire.com%2Fwhat-is-internet-trolling-3485891&usg=AFQjCNHtiiSal7NgGPhaizRQJTrAVmIslA Read that definition and maybe you will realise that if anyone is trolling here it's the poster telling everyone that it's over and the Remainers had no balls.
  9. I understand that you lack the intelligence to engage in a debate, and spend too much time begging people to do what you want.
  10. What you appear to be saying here is that politicians are to blame for allowing the uninformed to vote on their prejudices, instead of the politicians carrying out the duties which they were elected to do. Yes? In which case I agree. However, if you are also saying that the electorate didn't have the full facts, and voted on an emotional basis influenced by gutter press rags like the Daily Mail ( which used the EU as scapegoat for every unpopular government policy ) but none the less we must proceed anyway, then I disagree . What possible objection could anyone have for not holding another referendum once the full facts are known as to what exactly the impact will be on the country? Two questions; 1, At the time of the first referendum did everyone know exactly what the outcome of Brexit would be? 2, Can a more informed and rational decision be made by the electorate in a second referendum once the final terms and conditions are available for scrutiny and debate? It is becoming increasingly apparent that any deal we make will place us in a less fortunate position than the one we have at present. It is also obvious that the politicians that have the responsibility of achieving the Brexit deal on our behalf are not up to the task. Leaving the European Union is an enormous decision, with repercussions which will last for generations, another referendum will achieve a vital objective, the avoidance of doubt. if the electorate still vote leave once all the facts are available to them then everyone ( including me ) will accept it. My doubt at the moment, and I believe it to be a doubt shared by a lot of Remainers is that a significant number of Leave voters voted Brexit because they didn't fully understand the benefits of being in the EU, or in many cases because everyone - including the bookies - said that Remain would win, so they decided to register a 'protest vote'. Prove us wrong, demonstrate that the majority are for Leaving, it's the democratic thing to do. As it stands people like me will continue to believe that it was a vote won on ignorance, xenophobia, racism and jingoism with no facts or reasoning behind it. Prove us wrong, have the strength of your convictions. Brexit will be final, and we will be in competition with the most successful, wealthiest Trade Bloc in the World from then on. What have you got to be frightened of, you are certain of your viewpoint, how can you lose, prove us wrong and we can all advance together toward that bright new dawn, Camelot is here at last!
  11. There is only one person making an embarrassment of themselves here and that would be you. Do you actually understand the purpose of forums and why people post on them? Basically, you are requesting - nay begging - people to stop discussing the topic which is the subject - and sole purpose - of this thread. Not quite sure exactly who you think you are, or what authority you believe that you possess, but let me assure you that you have no say whatsoever over any other posters opinion on here. If other posters, who possess a bit more intestinal fortitude than you apparently have, wish to continue pointing out the sheer inanity of this ridiculous decision, made with little if any knowledge of the damage to the country and future generations it will cause, then we shall continue to do so. Understand?
  12. Tell us, throughout your life have you always given up at the first setback? Do you always roll over so easily when things don't go your way? We held a non binding referendum, it was close to the point that one of the main campaigning Brexiteers had gone on record as stating that if it turned out to be by that margin the other way it " wouldn't be over by a long way ". The vote was taken without anyone knowing exactly what the consequences of leaving would be. Fifteen months later we still don't know what's going to happen. The thing that the Brexiteers keep clinging on to in a desperate attempt to justify the mess that they've created is " It's the will of the people ". Well it may have been the will of the people a year ago last June, but is it still? Is the will of the people immutable, absolutely incapable of change? The only sensible and democratic way to proceed is to ask them again once that the exact terms and conditions of Brexit are clear. How can anyone object to that? It's democracy in action and allows a decision to be taken with knowledge of the outcome, which wasn't the case last time.
  13. If that's the Arnold Booths on John Street I worked there for a while in the late sixties. I recall we used to do work with and for Lees from time to time, going on this I would assume that Lees have taken over and perhaps closed Booths down. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjvvunrjbzWAhVlLcAKHf7gDisQFggyMAE&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbeta.companieshouse.gov.uk%2Fcompany%2F00375847%2Ffiling-history&usg=AFQjCNHTU74G7x0P6hgb4oZnPrhimTaI_Q Owned and run by two brothers who were decent blokes Michael Booth was the son and would be in his mid seventies now. The building is still there but doesn't look as if it's in constant use.
  14. The United Kingdom is the most unequal country in Europe. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiZmdWXibzWAhWHKcAKHd8hAB8QFghAMAM&url=https%3A%2F%2Finews.co.uk%2Fessentials%2Fnews%2Feducation%2Fuk-unequal-society-europe%2F&usg=AFQjCNGfydOrEqhWWAv4vakKGE4z7BBeiQ Please explain how this is the European Unions fault. The EU has a policy of directing funds to the poorest parts of EU member states in order to attempt to balance out and redistribute wealth and opportunity. Do you seriously believe that that will continue once Westminster has total control?
  15. This tends to show this countries attitude to the environment. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=12&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjyuuDthLzWAhUJCcAKHb-5B_QQFghpMAs&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.independent.co.uk%2Fvoices%2Ffracking-environment-ireland-theresa-may-a7771956.html&usg=AFQjCNG4IgLqQUbvsPer5_J2QG-MZyo4pw Although it has to be said that whether or not to carry out this kind of dubious practice is a matter for individual nations to decide, rules are not imposed by the EU upon member states. Which once again contradicts the 'Controlling Empire' nonsense so beloved of the Brexiteers. I have no faith in Westminster to put the environment and peoples health before profit. Unless of course the people are in the Home Counties in which case some consideration for their welfare must be given. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjW7dKUiLzWAhVBK8AKHdJrD9UQFggtMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fuk-politics-23505723&usg=AFQjCNF9GzP0Hp3SHZ0VOguJ5UUmvMONrA
