  1. Not terrorism, so mental illness. IMO Incels are in the grip of a mental illness of sorts, but by the same measure so are terrorists. That does not make it any less of a crime, and is no excuse. And both create terror in the true sense of the word. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
  2. Starmer will be thrilled. He's been trying to get rid of her ever since he lied about supporting Jeremy Corbyn to get elected as leader.
  3. Belittling the country, or simply stating the truth? Opinions may vary.
  4. Generating nuclear power does not cause climate change, it is considered 'clean.' However it does produce by products that have to be disposed of very carefully. Weapons, on the other hand, especially nuclear create total devastation as we can see from Gaza, Ukraine, and any number of other warring countries. They throw tons of dust and debris into the air, and destroy land and buildings, and people which all has to be cleared up. Presumably the buildings will be rebuilt using more materials. The same can't be said for the land and the people. One bomb probably causes more global warming than any number of cars etc. Yet here we are suppling thousands of such bombs and weapons, while simultaneously trying to stop people poluting the environment with cars, often at great inconvenience to themselves. People don't use cars for fun, they use them because they need to. That has barely been addressed.
  5. Interesting.... He's unelected. I believe he's been made a Lord (by whom?) so he can sit in the House of Lords. He can then pontificate on any political subjects, and vote down bills etc, so he has a great deal of political power. Is this democratic?
  6. Cheap telly, cheap celebs. We are living in very strange times with very strange values that make no sense to anyone over 40. We can only hope the barometer swings back the other way sometime soon and people come to their senses.
  7. Sorry you're feeling low, but feeling low is something that affects nearly everyone. Life is a succesion of good days and bad no matter who you are and what's happening in life. Tomorrow is another day and you might be feeling quite different, either way it's achance for a fresh start. Kids are difficult for every parent, particularly when they get to a certain age, so try not to dwell on it. Plans go wrong and It's possible to upset / offend them just by breathing in the wrong way 😏 never mind saying the wrong thing... You can't win so, just be your authentic self and let them get on with it. You are not 'an entitled, self pitying mess,' You're struggling with ill health, and finding things understandably difficult at the moment. Give yourself a break and try to relax, whether that's by meditating, yoga or whatever is your thing, or simply something as simple as watching a bit of telly or reading a good book. Give your brain a rest with a bit of distraction to take your mind off things. Be kind to yourself once in a while. You're worth it.
  8. Well done Weazel. Remember, baby steps, take it steady and don't expect too much just yet.. The first steps are often the hardest so you're doing well. Let 'Don't overthink it, just do it.' be your mantra. Confidence will come in time. We're all wishing you well. Let us know how you're getting on. xx
  9. The longer this enquiry goes on the angrier I'm getting. Seeing those meally mouthed managers et al denying they knew anything about it... They are getting paid massive saleries to run these companies because 'they're the best' and worth it... Well if they didn't know, they should have. That's what they're paid for. They belong in prison. Maybe their excessive salaries can be used to compensate some of the victimised postmasters who have been lied to, cheated, abused and persecuted for the last 20 years.
  10. What is most upsetting is that there are still people in general and on Sheffield Forum who don't believe this crisis is happening at all. They just moan about the number of vagrants in the city centre as if they're there just to annoy them. They're also very quick to blame them for being homeless - it's all their own fault, (it isn't) or they're all drug addicts (they're not) or feckless, idle indolents who won't work (they're not.) I hate to tell them but anyone can become homeless very quickly should circumstances so conspire, and when you're down and out it can be very hard to claw your way back. Have a little compassion.
  11. Food prices are still going up Padders, no signs of them dropping. Some supermarkets have a few 'come on' bargains (Morrisons selling big pots of Greek Yoghurt for 37p!) but glad I no longer have a family to feed, that must be very difficult at the moment.
  12. The quality of life is dropping for a lot of people as they are being priced out of all the things they enjoy.
  13. In spite of our 'Democracy,' we are one of the most class riddled societies in Europe, possibly the world. And now with growing inequality. Most Countries are dependent on the quality of their leaders be they benign dictators or democratically elected governments. The quality of our pre-selected leaders is dire and has been for a long time.
  14. Many thanks to you both. Very helpful. Will give them a try.
  15. Sorry, I wasn't blaming immigrants. Exactly the opposite actually, which is what I meant by saying they were a 'red herring' in other words simply a misleading , wrong assumption, distracting people from the real cause. Meanwhile... Instead of property developers (often from London) or Private Landlords, IMO rather than building more houses, local Councills should be buying up these vacant dwellings, refurbing them to a reasonable standard, (costing about £30,000) and adding them to their housing stock, to rent out to locals at affordable prices. Quicker and cheaper than building new houses.
