  1. I'm not really sure of the need for the ridiculous reponse above. The OP is obviously posting to ask for a reasonable quote for travel insurance for a pre-existing medical condition. Not a lecture about screwing insurance companies or the risk of flying with a history of DVT. I find your comment "If you don't give a damn about your Mum and you're looking for the highest payback in the event that she should croak, go for it. - I'm not sure why you are asking us for the best odds; you might do better with a bookie" rather unecessary and insensitive. Please think twice before you post such inconsiderate words. To the OP - in answer to your question, I know my mum managed to find quite reasonable travel insurance a few years after recovering from cancer. I will find out who the company was and PM you.
  2. Ooh I think this sounds fabulous. Can you serve decaf tea too please? (Yorkshire decaf is rather nice), and choice of milk too - i much prefer skimmed milk in my tea. I agree about the mini cafetiere's - I think they look really nice too. I hope you do open on Eccy Rd, as it's quite easy to get to, and parking isn't that bad. Hurry up and open soon please!
  3. I have a mixed view of this place. I popped into somerfield last week, and a lady outside gave me a card of vouchers for House of W - 50% off first visit, 40% off second visit, 30% of 3rd visit and so on. I was in need of a full head of highlights (which I only have done about once a year, the rest of the time I just stick to half head) so thought i'd use the 50% off voucher, see what it's like, then most probably stick to my regular hair dresser. I rang HoW that day, and asked for a price for full head of highlights. The bloke who answered was a little abrupt and barked "Speak up I can't hear you" down the phone. I did speak up, but it sounded like he was stood next to a hairdryer in full flow, so i'm not really surprised that he couldn't hear me. Anyway, eventually I managed to ask how much for full head. He said he couldn't give me a price over the phone and i'd have to come in for a consultation, and then book an appointment following this. I said I didn't really have time, but if he could give me a price over the phone i'd be happy to book an appointment. He said he was unable to do this, and that i'd have to come in. I said fine, and that I didn't have time. He hung up. The half price voucher was tempting me too much, so I rang again later that day and a lady answered - I asked the same question, and without hesitation she said £85. i asked if i could use the voucher and she said yes no problem. I booked in for that weekend. She asked if I wanted a cut, I said no thanks, she asked if I wanted it blow drying afterwards, I said yes. She said that will be an extra £25. Quite astounded at the price of blowdry, I asked if I could just have the colour alone, she said yes. When i turned up it was very posh - nice seating area with menu for drinks and nibbles, no expense spared on tea pots and china. I could see why the prices were so high. I had 2 gripes. 1) only went in for full head of highlights - was in there 3 hours. The colour was left on for ages whilst the stylist saw another couple of customers. I did begin to worry at one point that they'd forgotten about me and that all my hair was going to fall out as a result of the colour being on too long... thankfully it was ok. When they washed it off, it felt like I had about 3 shampoo's, 2 conditioners and something else put on. I'd previously been asked if I wanted a treatment, and declined. 2) when it came to paying, I handed them my voucher, and then was charged £52.50. I explained that i'd been quoted £85, so it should be £42.50. the stylist said she'd put a semi permanent colour on too. I don't remember asking for that, or even being offered it? Didn't see the point in arguing as she didn't seem overly bothered, and I was happy with the colour, so left it. My usual hairdressers charges about £55 for a full head of highlights - is closer to town (mid eccy road) and more relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I'm surprised that HoW can get away with charging the prices they do when there are so many competitors in close proximity - if I hadn't had the voucher, there's no way I would have paid the full price. If i'd had a cut and blow dry like I usually do, the price would have been close to £200. No amount of teapots and mini chocolate brownies can persuade me to pay that... lots of staff running around - lots of giggling and joking between staff (made me feel a little uncomfortable - 2 of them whispering behind my back as I was having hair washed). Staff not overly friendly - my stylist didn't say a single word to me for the whole hour she was putting foils in. Overall, an "ok" experience. Wouldn't go back unless I had another 50% off voucher, or had a substantial lottery win (but would then probably pay Vidal Sassoon to come to my house).
  4. They've been there for around a year now! I find it funny that they were originally located at the entrance to Smiths, so could hassle loads of shoppers walking in and out of the store (not just Smiths customers). Now have been relegated further back, and just seem to annoy people wanting to browse the history books... Their absolute desperation to sell the product just completely puts me off. Whever they approach me I just say that i've already seen the demo (I haven't) and then they leave me alone.
  5. I think these are absolutely fantastic. I've recently taken up photography as a hobby, and I really hope I can learn to take photo's like this. i'd be incredibly happy if my wedding album looked like this! Well done you
  6. Glad to have helped I'm in need of some new pictures so am now inspired to order some more myself!
  7. I bought one off ebay - just emailed the guy my photo, and the canvas arrived 2 days later. The quality is fantastic, and the price is so much cheaper than some of the shops. here's the link to his ebay shop - loads of others on SF have also used him, so he comes highly recommended http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/THE-TIME-MAN__W0QQ_armrsZ1
  8. 37p! Wow.. that's a bit of a rip off. I've never used the site myself, just heard people rave about it. Wondering what that says about Jeremy Clarkeson though...
  9. If you haven't got much time it might be worth trying music magpie http://www.musicmagpie.co.uk/
  10. I had an eye test in meadowhall where the optician could hardly be bothered to carry out the test (was too busy trying to finish early for a lunch break). So I had another test at Asda and they couldn't have been better. Very thorough test, great range of frames, and very reasonable prices. I don't think i'd even think of going anywhere else next time.
  11. The book is absolutely amazing - unbelievable value for money for the food and drinks vouchers alone. Can't wait to use the hotel & spa vouchers, and am really looking forward to the photography day. I've told loads of people about these books, and they've all been and bought one. Some have even bought 2! Great to hear you're enjoying the experiences.
  12. JezzyJJ I love your new signature p.s. your images on your website are fantastic, i've just taken up photography (with a DSLR...) and am very inspired by some of your photos.
  13. I thought this too - i remember a few years ago i heard it was cottage cheese melted with a cheese slice melted in (I would imagine it's a dairylea cheese slice due to the colour?)
