  1. The only clubs from the top 6 that I couldn't see Mourinho joining next year are Liverpool and Man U. Liverpool will almost certainly give Dalglish more time to shape his squad, especially if, as seems likely, they win a trophy this season. Man U 'cos I can't see Fergie retiring or the club firing him to bring Mourinho in. Wenger's time at Arsenal is running out, Redknapp will probably either be in prison or the England hotseat and Villas-Boas' job is looking less secure as the weeks go by. I think Mancini will keep his job if City win the PL but if they finish 2nd and Mourinho is available it would be massively tempting for the Arab owners to bring the special one in. I hope Mourinho does come back to the PL but there were rumours last year that he was leaving Real last summer and even Guilhem Balague said he was definitlely going.
  2. He was never as fast as somebody like Walcott is now but he had good pace. He can probably still do a decent job and realistically he's about as good as you are going to get if you're looking for a loan striker to cover players going off to the African Nations Cup. I can't see him pulling up any trees but I'd rather have him coming off of the bench for 2 months than Nicholas Bendtner.
  3. It will be good for United and Wednesday if he does go. I just hope nobody leaves the Lane in January.
  4. Exactly, it's all about the context. If you're in a doctors surgery and the receptionist calls out all the white patients using their name, but calls out all the black people by pointing at them and saying, 'your turn now black person', that would be racist. If your Mum asks you what your new girlfriend looks like and you say, 'she's tall black and slim', that's not racist. In both cases no actual racist language was used, it's just the context of the different situations. It's the same with Suarez using Negrito, it might be ok at a black friends house in Uruguay, but it's not on a football pitch in England. He's either guilty and knew what he was doing or guilty of being extremely naive. As ignorance of the law isn't an excuse he should be punished and has no excuse.
  5. Both sides are desperate for a win and should both see this as a very winnable game. I think they'll both go for it and so hopefully we'll see a lot of goals. 4-2 Blackburn and Steve Kean to lick his lips 473 times during the 90 minutes
  6. That's brilliant. I love how the commentator is laughing his head off as well.
  7. They won plenty in the 60's though and I'm sure this influenced a lot of people to support them in the 70's. I'm not suggesting non-local Man U fans can't be passionate or loyal to the club, just that the vast majority originally started supporting them due to their past success and/or probable future success.
  8. There must have been loads of teams to choose from even if you didn't go to matches. There were 22 teams in the old Football Division 1 that will have been on MOTD/The Big Match and then the teams competing in the Fairs Cup/Uefa Cup/Cup Winners Cup. If it was just a case of picking a team you saw on TV we'd have a roughly equal balance of Spurs, Everton, QPR & West Ham (etc. etc.) 30-40 year old fans in Sheffield as we do Man U & Liverpool fans. Also are you saying that non-local Man U fans brought up in the (relatively) non-hooligan and Sky Sports era are glory hunters? I agree that it's not just Man U fans that do this as it could be somebody from Southend supporting West Ham or somebody from Mansfield supporting Forest. I wouldn't class Sheffield FC as a Dronfield side though, no more than Grimsby are a Cleethorpes side, Rotherham a Sheffield side or even Man U a Trafford side.
  9. A top 4 finish would be a decent finish for Chelsea. They'd then get CL revenue for next season and still be able to attract quality players. It'll be interesting to see who starts up front against Spurs on Thursday. Drogba wasn't at the races against Wigan and hasn't been great for most of the season, bar a few games. If he starts it's looking ominous for Torres I reckon.
  10. I'll be massively surprised if the title doesn't head to Manchester this year. Chelsea are in a transitional phase at the moment and while I wouldn't have got rid of Ancelotti, I think Villas-Boas needs more time. He may not turn out to be the right man for Chelsea but he has problems with the team he's got at the moment and none of them are of his making. Torres doesn't look like the same player that Liverpool had, Lampard and Drogba are past their peaks and Kalou, Malouda and Mikel are not up to the part of playing well week in week out. AVB didn't sign any of these players.
  11. Glory hunting and following a non-local club because of their tradition, history and success are the same thing. Somebody from Sheffield, Sunderland or Norwich who supports Man United is doing so because they've had more success in the past and will almost certainly have more success in the future. There's nothing with this and it's not just in England that it happens as Juventus have huge follwing in Italy and Real Madrid the same in Spain.
  12. 22,000 burglaries over 3 years in Sheffield is scary. I didn't realise the figure was so high! I've read before that if a criminal steals car radios from 20 cars parked in the same car park, it classes as 1 crime. Does anybody know if the same applies to a burglar robbing x amount of houses in the same night. If it does then the figures are even more scary or is this an urban myth? I have had a look on google but I can't find anything concrete and the match is starting soon
  13. He's done a good job wherever he's been IMO. Altough he didn't win anything at Villa, he took them to the League Cup final and finished 6th for 3 years in a row. He also took Leicester City to 3 League Cup finals (winning 2) and secured 4 top 10 finishes in a row. That's a good record for those 2 particular clubs and I'm sure Sunderland will be looking for something similar, although this year they should be happy to avoid a relegation scrap.
  14. It's been difficult for Bruce losing Welbeck, Bent and Gyan in a relatively short space of time, so that's not helped in Sunderland's quest to get off to a good start. I've also just read a few articles stating that Bruce had actually recouped more money in transfers than he's spent, which surprised me a bit. Overall though, I think there are better managers out there and Sunderland as a club have a lot of potential, so I don't blame them for wanting to replace Bruce. I'd go for Martin O'Neill who has a proven track record with medium sized clubs.
  15. I agree with Mancini getting his tactics wrong against Napoli. Richards and Aguerro should both have started. I disagree that Mancini has no idea what he's doing though. On the whole he's got his tactics, team selections and even substitutions pretty much bang on, at least in the Premier League anyway.
