  1. Right, Pixie. I had a permanent colour put on that was way over the top. I used Head & Shoulders every day for 2 weeks and the colour toned down to something actually quite O.K. I found it best to leave the shampoo on for a couple of minutes or so & use masses of conditioner.
  2. Agreed. The same people turn up at Community Assemblies each time and they never attracted the wider community : same familiar faces each month and each with their own particular agenda. Not democratic and certainly not a decision-making body, but took up a great deal of officer time and, of course, money.
  3. What a great poem and well expressed. Well done, Andy. Sadly, there are some miserable and unpleasant people in this world, as you can see, but you'll learn to ignore them, as you're better than any of them. I wonder if you'll come to Sheffield College? I hope you will, because young people like you, who try hard and who are obviously lovely to teach will be very welcome. Your family are so proud of you and they've every right to be.
  4. Nightmare Ghozer. I've always booked a seat in the quiet coach, until recently. I really can't bear the hassle. People simply ignore the fact that they shouldn't be playing music for others to hear or using their phones etc. The last journey from London was horrible. This guy took a phone call, sat in the carriage and shouted into his phone for what seemed like hours. In the end I got up and politely asked him if he would mind going into the corridor and got not only abuse, but threats - from him and his girlfriend. They then thought it was a good follow-up to keep walking past my seat, stop and stare at me. As I was on my own, this wasn't particularly fun. Then a whole load of people got on, played music and shouted to each other. I just put up with it - won't use a quiet coach again.
  5. Dawny, what are you on about? Why have you written "hecause you realised damm quickly", by which I suppose you mean that you think I was part of the decision? I'm not a councillor! This decision was nothing to do with me. All I did was contact the Council, like you could have done, to get the correct information. I really don't care what you think about the decision, but I do object to you having a go at me personally. I suppose that's what comes of finding out the facts and posting them on here. You obviously aren't interested in finding out the truth about things - you just want to have a pop at the Council at every opportunity. And it gets boring.
  6. Didn't you read this? From the thread on the ice cream vans, posted 2 days ago : As the chair of Sheffield Council Licensing Committee, I may be the "horse's mouth" you are referring to! Permit me to put this into perspective. Last November, the Licensing Committee (which comprises Labour, Lib Dem and Green councillors) received a report on street trading. In an attempt to improve both vehicle standards and emissions it was agreed that an age restriction of 5 years on vehicles would be imposed. No ice cream traders had responded to the council's consultation document. But nearly two weeks ago now, an ice cream trader from Walkley came to a committee meeting to appeal against the new policy. The gentleman provided a sound and sensible case to allow him to continue trading with his existing vehicle (which is over 20 years of age) and his application was granted. In the process of granting the application, we immediately suspended the new policy and asked officers to review the vehicle emissions issue again. As a council, we do, by law, have to meet certain standards of emissions as adopted by the government - as RosyRat has been explaining. But it is now obvious that the policy we adopted isn't suitable, and so we've scrapped it. A new consultation on different ideas on how to meet the goverment's emissions policy will now take place with street traders. It is to be hoped that the ice cream traders will, this next time round, give us their views!
  7. Fair point Ash. I can find plenty from the EU on the control of emissions from ice cream vans and I can find statistics from same that show that the level of emissions rise with the age of the vehicles, but not the 5 year rule which SCC show quite clearly on their website. The best thing for me to do is try to get the facts from the horse's mouth (sic) and post on here as soon as I can.
  8. What bit of "not a Council directive" don't you understand? It's as if no-one's ever posted before on this thread. O.K. let's do it again : This is nothing to do with the Labour Council and everything to do with the government choosing to extend the EU ruling on carbon emissions to all Local authorities. I've quoted 2 newspaper sources giving the facts and you choose to ignore them. Let's try again shall we? The vans are among hundreds of thousands that will attract hefty fines if they do not meet strict new particle emission limits from January 3. The law currently applies to London boroughs, but the Environment Department is looking at introducing low emission zones in other cities.
  9. Linda At least 3 times on this thread it's been pointed out that this is not a Council decision, but an EU directive which has been made into a national requirement by the government. If Sheffield City Council defied the government and refused to implement the regulations, they would be in deep bother. Please don't be so quick to leap in and have a go - at least check out the links which give you the actual story.
  10. None of this is is new. Traders may say that the stipulation over vehicles over 5 years old is in "the small print" but I found it easily enough and it's not in small print : "Motorised vehicles should not be of an age of 5 years or over." And no, it doesn't just apply to ice cream vans but all vehicles used by street traders. Link here : http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/business-economy/licensing/general-licensing/retail/street-trading/mobile-other.html Click on citywide street trading criteria. You'll notice that the regulations date from 2011.
  11. Quite frankly I don't give a toss how you feel about politics or politicians. You're quite happy to let comments like this go by : "Labour are determined to kill this city. " But let me put the facts out there with evidence to back them up and you have a go at me personally. This isn't a political argument, it's a debate about a particularly poor report in the Star and don't try to turn it into anything else. ---------- Post added 20-04-2013 at 18:44 ---------- This is nothing to do with the Labour Council and everything to do with the government choosing to extend the EU ruling on carbon emissions to all Local authorities. I've quoted 2 newspaper sources giving the facts and you choose to ignore them. Let's try again shall we? 12. The Councils aren't targetting small businesses like this, the government is. In fact DEFRA, as you can see from this article in the Daily Express, again published as long ago as 2011 : http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/261322/Meltdown-for-ice-cream-vans Here's the quote : Van owners fear they will be forced out of business when air quality standards are extended in the New Year to cover a new range of vehicles. The vans are among hundreds of thousands that will attract hefty fines if they do not meet strict new particle emission limits from January 3. The law currently applies to London boroughs, but the Environment Department is looking at introducing low emission zones in other cities. And DEFRA has indeed introduced this regulation to our cities. Sheffield Council, like every other Council in the country, is now required by the Government to introduce the legislation.
  13. Actually, no. This regulation has been around for 2 years or so now and not just in Sheffield, but nationwide. For those of you who will jump on any tentative bandwagon to have a go at the Council, a little research might have given you the facts. Here's a quote from The Independent in August 2011 Meltdown for the country's estimated 5,000 ice cream vans started with the rise of the domestic freezer in the Fifties but has been compounded more recently by new EU rules introducing lower emission limits. These mean that many older ice cream vans face costly conversions or face being taken off the road. In London, meanwhile, tighter emissions standards will come into force from January next year. Some ice cream vans will be able to fit a filter, but the charge for those that don't will be £100 a day. So why not have a go at the Tory and Lib Dem Councils who have already implemented the regulations? But that wouldn't fit in with your agenda, would it?
  14. Yes, Irene, I do accept what you're saying. Perhaps it's better that the idiots are confined to an area & can be identified. At least the coward who committed this particular act will be picked up and dealt with.
  15. What sort of a "sport" is this where not only do grown men behave like animals, but others make excuses for them?
