  1. I'd recommend Mercury as they took us from Sheffield to Barnsley and back
  2. You might of course be able to use an automatic car but I would not advise it if you are taking strong morphine and various other tablets as this will impair your ability to drive and by law you have to inform the DVLA when you have an illness. It will invalidate your insurance if you haven't done so and could get you into a whole load of problems in the event of an accident. Taking medication from a prescription that can cause reduced reactions is classed as the same as taking illegal drugs when driving. I have been into the whole thing myself as I had to inform the DVLA.
  3. Oh poor you and your daughter, Saffy. Sounds horrendous! I can't imagine how you all feel. Hope that things get sorted about that soon. I hope that your psychologist appt goes how you expect and that somehow you can recover the you that lies within. Fingers crossed next week goes better for you.
  4. I know what you mean. I have had to pull out of loads of meetings lately and it is so embarrassing and disappointing for myself and others. I feel like such a let down and my partner is a saint for being so understanding, but I suppose at least we have to care for each other as my partner is totally blind.
  5. You could try Sheffield Gerbil rescue as they might take him.
  6. Saffy, I feel for you. Why don't you say to Mike he can come to your appointments and find out more that way? It is horrible to feel so low. I guess though that he feels bereaved for losing the you that was. Not that I am excusing the way he behaves. And at the end of the day you both have to live with each other but I guess it is hard for you both. As for your driving, I was faced with the same thing and it is gutting to not be able to drive when you are used to it. There is hope though. Have you thought about getting in touch with your local community transport? They are cheaper than buses and pick you up at your door. I hope that things improve for you and that things in your relationship get better too.
  7. Thanks so much for all your comments. Yes you are right, Guide dogs are truly loved and cherished as they are not just a working animal, they are a best friend and pair of eyes.
  8. My partner has just read an Obituary in the Guide dog magazine Forward relating to her beautiful ex-Guide dog Ivan. Another was written about his best friend Dalby who belonged to one of my partner's close friends. My partner says " both the boys retired to a couple who the obituary says are called Gwen and Geoff living in Sheffield. I never met Gwen and Geoff but I want to say thank you so, so much for enabling the boys to live together in their final years as they were always inseparable. Jackie, Dalby's Guide dog owner and me (Ivan's) will miss them forever. We send our condolences and will always remember Gwen and Geoff's generosity. If you know them please could you pass my message on, Thanks so much, Deborah."
  9. Does he do the test where they photograph your eyes and the optician can see your health problems? Boots do.
  10. I have tried Vision Express and the service is appalling, much prefer Boots.
  11. Hi all, Hope you feel better now Jez after that awful night? Medusa. counselling can often help. I am lucky my partner is a psychotherapist so I get the best therapy to challenge my thoughts. Yes, Saffy you are on a high dose of Ami. I used to be on it but got so fed up of the weight gain. Hi Deb, nice to have another fellow sufferer on here.
  12. Saffy, Never give up hope. Never say never. My partner and I know someone who has had Rheumatoid Arthritis and is in a wheelchair, she can't do anything with her hands and she has no sight and she still works and has PAs to help her work which is all possible for people with physical disabilities. Life always has something to hold however bad things seem. Best of luck with your appointment and hope it all goes well.
  13. Make sure you have plenty of things for them to chew on. We get our friends and family to save their toilet roll middles for our Gerbils to chew on and they love them. They need plenty of bedding to make tunnels in. We use Carefresh but many use Wood shavings. Whatever you do dont put them in a cage. Try a gerbilarium or a tank and I have found that male gerbils have been the friendliest but get at least 2 of them. Good luck. You will have lots of fun as they are really cute.
  14. Hi Saffy It sounds like you have had a really rough time of it. Just one thing that concerned me about what you said. Do you think you should drive while feeling high on Oramorph? You are supposed to inform the DVLA when you have health problems and are on medication. Not sure they would allow you to drive. I stopped driving when I was on all that medication. Don't wish to make make you go on a downer but you have to be careful in case you have an accident.
  15. Seems like a very good idea. My partner is blind and it was a problem before we lived together for her. I know its not the sell by dates, but the Co-op braille a lot of their foods. It would be great if all supermarkets followed suit.
