  1. They seem OK for basic home use but I've found these downsides that you don't hear very often. I've not managed to find any decent Office suites for them. They don't have USB ports so no memory sticks or external hard disks can't be used. Without buying the wireless keyboard you can't type on them for long. The VPN connectivity is very limited, if you need to connect to work. They're not very ergonomic with the keyboard been on the screen, you have to look down at the table level screen which isn't good for your neck. I couldn't replace my desktop or laptop with one. It's not all bad though and I'm sure others will tell you about the good points. It just depends what you want it for.
  2. Steve Jobs was a great businessman and has made some brilliant products that have seriously advanced the technology world. But I believe that the thing he became best at was selling inappropriate devices to the masses based on the fact they looked nice, are considered 'designer' and are well made. Once he figured out how to sell the products as a fashion accessory, it didn't matter what the competition was producing. How many people just go out and buy an iPod because it's a synonymous with MP3 players. Did many of them even consider buying another make? The iPod is the perfect example. It's thought of as the ultimate MP3 player but for the first few years it was out it didn't even play the MP3 format. Apple forced its owners to use its own format whether they wanted to or not. Only after a massive outcry did they finally give in and open up the devices. As usual they are made with Apples own standard of cables to make sure they don't work with anything you currently have e.g. mini USB. As for iTunes, this is the biggest con yet. Yes it works great for novice users who just want to download tracks and sync them but if you want to do anything else like managing your files (renaming, moving etc) it throws a major wobbler. The constant updates make it a nightmare to manage in a corporate environment. I seem to have update and then allow all the apps through our firewall on a near weekly basis. It also manages to sneak in DRM and unbelievable restrictions on the music you have bought and own. Swapping your iPod is a nightmare to transfer everything on to the new one. Ultimately means that you tied into owning an iPod for the rest of your life, unless you fancy buying your own music collection again, when you already own it. I'm a Window's user mainly but I also own a Mac. To me it's not the easiest thing to use. It's just not intuitive to me. In Windows you want the internet you go to Internet Explorer. On a Mac, it's Safari which to me isn't very logical. I'm my experience it takes people longer to get used to Mac OS than it does Windows. This all goes out of the window though when the cool factor comes in to it. Our uses tend to have a stroke when you give then a new version of Windows on their PCs and can't cope with a fairly minor change but it's amazing how many keep asking for Macs or iPads, with a totally different OSs just because they seem the adverts and they look nice. It all seems a bit 'Emperor’s New Clothes' to me. People want them because they're 'good', stylish and have the pose factor. Like I said he was a great man but could be considered a bit of a snake oil salesman, but that just my opinion.
  3. Help! Does anyone know who stocks the "Salon Selectives" range of hair products in Sheffield? It's an old brand that used to be available all over till the mid nineties and it's just been launched again this year. I've found one shop but they've sold out straightaway so if anyone's seen it anywhere I'd be really grateful. Cheers!
  4. Hi Maxster, We order ours from Digital Exchange. They're off Brightside Lane towards the end of the Wicker. They don't have them in stock but can order them in for you. http://www.thedigitalgroup.co.uk/ Chris.
  5. Hiya, this is just the question I wanted to post but I thought I'd do a quick search to see if anyone else had enquired. I see there was no replies - shame. If there is anyone out there who knows of any good soul nights I'd be very interested. I'm more interested in 80's soul/funk rather than latter day RnB stuff. I'm not holding out much hope but you never know! All the best!
  6. I do, I didn't think of there so I'll give them a try, thanks again Jules.
  7. Thanks Jules, I meant to mention Ikea in the OP. They've just discontinued that size - typical! But thanks for taking the time to reply, really appreciate it.
  8. Hi, Does anyone know of a store that sells aluminium venetian blinds 200cm wide (without going to a made-to-measure retailer)?. Most places like B&Q, Dunelm Mill and Homebase only do them to 180cm wide. Sorry for the boring housey question but if anyone can advise I'd be very grateful, Thank you.
  9. Hi Preacher Man, Draytek routers have a USB port but I've only used them for printing from and using 3G dongles in them. Might be worth looking in to because I'm not use about using USB storage through them. They not the cheapest routers though but they are good. They're more of a corporate router than for home use so they can be more advanced to used.
  10. Hi, TM Travel operate the 285 and it leaves Arundel Gate at 5:15 and this is the only one I'm afraid. The other service is the 43 operated by Stagecoach that leaves at the same stand (AG9) which departs at 19:07 and gets to Dronfield Woodhouse at 19:33. Hope this helps? PS. Stand AG9 is across the road from TJ Hughes.
  11. I've just this morning managed to track down Glen Holman, so any help regarding Keving would be a bonus. Thanks again.
  12. Hello, I'm trying to contact a couple of people who worked at Brown Bayleys/Hadfields Steels in Sheffield in the 70's/early 80's, namely Glen Holman or Kevin Fearn (although I believe Kevin moved to Stockton many years ago?). If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Cheers, Kirst
  13. Mother and (I think) the daughter have been running this scam for months down the bottom of the Moor near the DWP building, they seem to work their way from London Road, around Moorfoot, then up the Moor, surely no-one's daft enough to give them money if they get told the SAME story EVERY evening?
  14. I have an access database deployed on a customer environment that when running reports using stored procedures it comes up with "Error 2580 Record Source 'sp_myprocedure' specified for the form or report does not exist". It's works fine on my environment and we've checked all the obvious stuff like permissions, spelling ambiguity down to checking the Public role has SELECT permission on 'SysObjects' table, verifying the version of the msadox.dll. The only way we can replicate this error on our environment is to re-name the stored procedure but this has been double-checked at customer end and all seems to be fine. This does seem to be an environmental issue not a coding one. Can anyone offer any advice please? Any help would be greatly appreciated
