  1. This is the best supermoon shot I got...
  2. If you're trying the old version from driver CD you may want to see if there's a newer version for your camera. I've just found this... http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/contents/HK/EN/0200372802.html for EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 6D, so you never know, there may be an update that'll support your camera. The way you get EOS Utility to work on Windows 7, for example, is to download the update (which is the entire updated program really) from Canon, & tweak your windows registry to make the "update" think it's actually updating something.
  3. If it's old software it may help to run it in "compatibility mode" for Windows XP. If you right click the desktop or menu icon for the program & choose "properties" you'll see a "compatibility" tab in the box that opens. In there set it to Windows XP.
  4. Thanks, yeah the first one is a great spot for a 360, & the sky changed perfectly in the half hour before too. I like the crystal ball thing, I wouldn't have the patience for that (& I have ugly hands).
  5. Hello Can anyone think of any nice places for 360° panoramas around Sheffield? I've mainly been taking landscapes, now I'm getting better at it I'd like to find places that are a bit more challenging, but apart from getting to the Peace Gardens early morning while it's empty I'm struggling to think of places that'd look good. Apart from this room, which is my nemesis
  6. It you go out to Greasborough (north of Rotherham) there's the start of Wentworth Fisheries, where you can walk through to Wentworth Woodhouse. There are three fishing lakes, & some meadows around the edge to the Greasborough side. Also pylons going over part of it, but easy enough to Photoshop power lines out If you like fields of poppies the road from Nether Haugh to Wentworth has a couple of fields that are oozing them, or were a month ago, & there's also a field along that road where they grow sunflowers quite often, though can't remember seeing them this year. And if you're out that way, Elsecar reservoir. You may get lucky with some of the fields to the north-east that overlook the less pretty end of the res, if not there's generally something flowering round the edge.
  7. A couple of mine... Hope Valley towards Edale. Ladybower.
  8. Windowless brick cube, no idea sorry, couldn't resist...
  9. Actually you're about 1000 years out They're harking back to the 7th Century & all want to be Vikings! clicky
  10. There's an observatory out near Wentworth next to Hoober Stand & they tend to site them where there's minimal light pollution, I'd imagine that'd be a good place & it's within 100 metres of a lane. Would be a lot easier to get to than Mam Tor. Google maps link here, Hoober Stand to the left, observatory to the right.
  11. The ebay idea is very tempting, the eos 1000d I've been looking at is apparently a cut-down 450d, which I can get for cheaper than the new 1000d on ebay. I'm very paranoid about anything second hand though unless I can examine it with a fine-tooth comb, which is kind of incompatible with ebay... I've been onto a friend who has a Canon with the same lens mounting system, & who says I can borrow his telephoto lens if I need one (he trusts me to replace it if I kill it), so with that the eos 1000d is looking favourite. Plus ebuyer have it in stock, I've already got an account with them, which is a clincher really. I may have a look around for a second-hand 450d for sale locally before though. Thanks for the help everyone.
  12. After some thought I've realised that every compact camera experience I've had has been lacking in some way, & rather than just perpetuating the annoyance I'd be better off stumping for the EOS 1000D with the 18-55mm lens for about £350. I'm so indecisive though that I'll probably change my mind another twice today. Feel free to amuse yourselves by convincing me I need an SLR, then re-convincing me I want a compact, & repeating until my brain explodes.
  13. Well that's simplified that then, thanks. I've been looking at various reviews of compact cameras & the sample photos all seem to suffer from the same problem around the edges, though obviously some seem to be better than others. The Powershot SX20 seems to be one of the nicer options out of the ones I've looked at, though there are that many makes/models that I'm somewhat overwhelmed, I'm starting to see what it's like for beginners wanting to build their first PC. Are there any particular makes that seem to be consistently better than others for compact/"prosumer" (hate that word) cameras?
  14. Could anyone offer me any advice on a new camera please? I'm looking for something half decent, am considering an entry-level SLR, but would prefer something slightly more compact if I can find something with decent picture quality & decent optical zoom. it seems though that everything other than SLRs in my price range has abysmal quality on high-contrast edges, presumably because the CCDs on everything non-SLR are so small. Everything seems to be 10-12 MP minimum now, which is more than adequate for me. Shortlist at the moment consists of two, for compact cameras the favourite is the Canon Powershot SX20 IS, for entry-level SLR I'm considering the EOS 1000D. I could probably go up to £400, or £500-£600 if I find the perfect camera, my perfect camera, if anyone knows of such a thing, would be something a bit more compact than an SLR, with a decent size CCD, & good optical zoom. I've seen various mentions of 4/3 cameras which seem to be along those lines, but I don't know enough about photography to make an informed choice. If I go with a compact then manual focus is a must, I've had too long relying on badly implemented auto-focus that never quite works right. My main concerns are... If I get an SLR or 4/3 camera (kit rather than body only) they come with a basic normal lens, how much would I be looking at for a decent telephoto lens? Are there any more compact fixed lens cameras I'm missing with a better CCD size than 1/2.33"? Do any brands have better image processing than others? Presumably some decent compact cameras would minimise the fuzzy purple edging on high contrast shots.
  15. The problem is that the OP actually believes the drivel that the Daily Wail prints, & not only that but takes it seriously. End of story to anyone with half a brain, but you apparently need some semtex to get a point through that thickness of skull.
