  1. Why is there such a big debate about the city centre shopping. With high business rates and parking issues, it makes sense for shops to move out. So why not rename the centre to the entertainment, drinking and eating quarter of the city and define Meadowhall and the Carbrook area as the shopping quarter, where there is the space and accessibility for cars and plenty of parking. This would elevate all the parking issues in town, give more room for city centre living and let the other types of businesses such as solicitors, accountants and software houses thrive in the extra space. The city centre would have better air quality with the reduction of heavy transport and fewer cars. Night life would increase with an increase of restaurants and bars.
  2. Peak times for me, I live in Barnsley and work in Sheffield so I'm hitting the area in the normal full on rush hour
  3. I use it everyday, the traffic has been the best I've ever seen it, smooth flowing, no hassles, everyone waiting patiently. Why don't they leave them off.
  4. I moved to Wombwell nearly a year ago after 25 years in Sheffield for exactly the same reason. Twice the house for half the money. I still work in Sheffield but it only takes 20 minutes to get to work, it used to take me 30 minutes to drive 2 miles while I was there. The elephant and castle is an amazing pub the food is out of this world. Wombwell has 10+ pubs all with in 5 minutes of each other, plus the convenience of the shops at Corton wood. Its a bit like Meadowhall retail park and Parkgate combined Elsecar is a lovely place, great park, decent pubs, (The market pub is fab) the Heritage centre has something going off most weekends, Wentworth is just around the corner Only one downside. its a bugger when it snows! it is in a steep valley.
  5. I get mine from Earnshaws at Wentworth £3.50 a onion type bag hard wood logs
  6. I see this the same as fly tipping. Fine the company responsible. Along with the fast food outlets that have wrappers and paper littering the streets. I know there's going to be a response of its the person dumping, yes if they are caught then good, but the companies have a responsibly too. What happens when some one trips over a dumped bike?
  7. Perhaps he knows "Never drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly"
  8. Once inside its hard pressed to tell the difference from anyother super market. Quite nice really. And cheap.
  9. Trouble is, its not a big draw for a family day out when there's Elsecar heritage and Cannon Hall Farm not too far away, both with lots more to see and do throughout the year. Chatsworth, Wentworth Woodhouse and Harewood house are all more well known and are more attracted to visitors. The car park cost and entrance fee are very expensive, which I know put lots of people off, they need to continually lay on festivals and events to draw in the crowds. The main income is from the gardens which are seasonal, weddings again are mainly spring and summer. The place needs a good marketing company and a reason to for crowds to visit.
  10. The ISS looks like a large bright star that travels across the sky. Check the sighting times against the timetable https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/view.cfm?country=United_Kingdom&region=England&city=Sheffield#.WIdRr2emmHs
  11. I saw a snowflake in Barnsley as I passed the 14 mile queues of people wanting bread and milk.
  12. I was away on a business trip to a city in North Thailand last week. Talking to one of the prospective customers at a exhibition, he asked where we were based, I replied Sheffield in the UK. His eyes lit up and he replied Sheffield Wednesday??? Yes I said one of the local teams. He welled up and told me about the minutes silence that was given in honour of their beloved king, he said that it was on their news channels and all over Youtube. It had reduced Thai people to tears for the total respect of all the people in the stadium, he shook my hand and said thank you, I said I would write something on Sheffield Forum to thank all the people who were there on his and his peoples behalf. Well done the Owls, you did Sheffield proud.:clap:
  13. My chap charges a tenner to trim bushes and cut the front lawn. They are definatley taking the micheal.
  14. The road is taped off by the police just up from the fishponds. Had to go around the lump to get by. Will be very busy with traffic soon. ---------- Post added 07-07-2016 at 10:01 ---------- Does anyone know what had happened.
