  5. Hello We are going to be taking part in 'Cliffhanger' this year and are on the scrounge for a marquee or gazebo. Given the weather we have been having lately we thought it wise to make sure that all our displays this year are housed but the marquee we generally use is not as big as we would like and so we are hoping to get an additional one on loan for the two day event (7th and 8th July). I know that this is a bit of a long shot but i thought it worth an ask! Thanks Lindsay (Friends of the Peak District) http://www.friendsofthepeak.org.uk

  8. This year's FSI challenge fun run and walk is going to be even more fun - and raise even more money for charities. The 2012 Challenge will take place at Thornbridge Hall in the Peak District on Saturday the 30th of June. It will be a real activity-packed weekend – you can camp over, enjoy a big communal dinner and then attend the Thornbridge Garden Party on the Sunday. The feedback from last year was great, so it promises to be the same again for 2012. The 4 or 10km course can be walked or run by participants of almost any ability – so you don’t need to be an accomplished athlete to take part. So please - support us by either running or walking whilst raising funds for our vital work protecting Peak District landscapes! To find out how to book, please get in touch with Danny on 0114 266 5822.

  12. Cotton Grass Theatre presents The Unreturning Army The story of Derbyshire Dales folk during the Great War - like Horace Johnson from Youlgrave, one of the unsung private soldiers, who lived through the disastrous Gallipoli campaign. He told his tale years later when his family encouraged him to write it down. The players will also present the story of Vera Brittain from Buxton, who went to France as a volunteer nurse. The letters she exchanged with her fiancé Roland Leighton at the Front vividly describe their feelings and their doubts about the war. Vera was the mother of SDP founder Shirley Williams The performance weaves original material from the Derbyshire Times and local parish magazines with the poems of Siegfried Sassoon, Wilfred Owen and others to give a glimpse of life in the Peak District villages during the Great War. It is a sad, touching at times humorous story and if you would like to join us the details of where and when are given below: Friday 11th and Saturday 12th Nov 2011 7.30pm at Thornbridge Hall at Ashford-in-the-Water Tickets: £10 Box Office: 07920 755435
