  1. I think your songs and your voice are really good. I agree with the above comment about downloading cakewalk, or alternatively reaper. In addition a focusright Scarlett or other audio interface would be a wise purchase. With a little bit of effort(youtube tutorials) you can get a really professional sounding recording. Cakewalk even has midi drums, bass and strings as part of the package so everything you could possibly need. Also playing live is a great idea, feedback from a real crowd will help you fine tune your songs. Most importantly keep at it because they're really good songs.
  2. Make sure you tag your YouTube videos well, there are tutorials online for doing this. Maybe cover a really popular song and put that on your channel too, people will find your channel by searching for the song and then might listen to your original songs as well. Try distrokid for getting your recordings onto streaming sites and also do all of the above suggestions too.
  3. depends on budget, try to avoid cheap, hard to play guitars which could put him off playing for life. find out what hes learning on at school maybe and get the same.
  4. Had mine done this year, it cost 24 quid but different garages charge different amounts. I would say pay for the code
  5. If you ever fancy looking at Rock music, check out eight deadly words. An animated video would be awesome. http://www.eightdeadlywords.com
  6. The Royal standard is a great place to play, we loved it there and look forward to going back. A lot of bands play for free until they bring enough fans to a gig to warrant being paid. No one will pay you 250 quid to play if you bring your 10 mates with you each time, if you can get enough of a following to fill a venue and make some profit for the place they will be happy to pay you to play, it's easier for covers bands than originals I think.
  7. Awesome. Let us know when you're ready to gig..... Keep Rockin dudes...\m/
  8. Hey, good luck finding a band. We're a female fronted Rock/Metal band, there needs to be more round Sheffield. We're on at the Rutland Arms tonight, charity gig with several bands on get down and say Hi, gigs are good places to meet other musicians. http://www.eightdeadlywords.com
  9. Hey, check out my band Eight Deadly Words. What is the set up for sound etc....
  10. It's hard, if you're serious and are going to have a website you need to find a name with a free .com or .co.uk ......this way you'll always be found on a search of the web. That is what we did in my band Eight Deadly Words. One name I have that was nearly the name of my last band is...... Suns of Tradition.....it doesn't suggest any particular style so won't put people off looking into what kind of songs you do etc.....and when you google it there aren't many exact matches so you'll always be first on google.
  11. try Reaper...you can have it on an evaluation basis indefinitely and its a great piece of software
  12. I'm easy with bands to cover, it's all for fun.... Metallica/Megadeth/Maiden if its oldschool - I'm easy with the newer stuff, throw some ideas my way......just dont want to do something that needs weeks and weeks of rehearsal to get right. Could even go for some cheezy 70 stuff just for a laugh.....always goes down well at open mic nights
  13. Ha...no, cant sing. can have a go at anything really, although it would be best to keep it light to medium, after all it's for open mic so more mainstream, something that can be easily put together and rehearsed.....also open mic nights usually have a full backline and vocal pa so you just need to take your guitars.....
  14. HA...we should throw a couple of covers together and do an open mic somewhere for a laugh. Any Wincobank drummers???
  15. Cheers dude. I'm on Newman.....we're almost neighbours....ha You'll have to give me a listen to your recordings dude...sounds interesting. No gigs coming up, our singer is away for a month......we're writing some new stuff while shes away. Keep Rockin dude.....\m/.................\m/
