  1. The wheels must be of merchantable quality. Same as the rest of the car. Providing that the lacquer is flaking due to poor manufacture and there is no evidence of damage which may have started the lacquer peeling, you have a good case. Write to them stating the problem and that you are not happy with their response. If that fails contact Trading Standards.
  2. Went past on Monday night and they looked spectacular in the mist. Well done.
  3. I believe the barrier is metal to allow for the flexing of the viaduct as heavy vehicles pass over it. It has more 'give' than concrete.
  4. It doesn't really look like either of those. I'll try to get a picture, but nearest description is white bloom that looks like polish that hasn't been buffed off. It disappeared very easily when polished, but was back in less than 24 hours. I've had the car 4 years and never noticed any imperfections in the laquer or paint in that location. Also, it is a completely random shaped patch, not spots or regular marks. I'll try a photo in the sun tomorrow. Cheers Dave
  5. Quick question. I have a light silver Skoda which is kept well polished with carlack and Collinite products. I have found a white bloom about 10cm across on the passenger door which looks like polish which hasn't been removed. I polished it out easily with Meguires paint cleaner but it was back within 24 hours. Nothing has contaminated it as far as I know. Any ideas? Thanks
  6. Regularly travel from Hillsborough to Gleadless, 8 miles leaving around 4.00pm. Tonight was a good run averaging 18mph. On a bad night or a few minutes later and you can half that to 9mph!!!!!!!!!!
  7. You can be in Perth in 18 hours from Manchester. Two legs usually around 11 hours and 6 hours depending on where you stop. Of all the countries in the world, Australia has to be the easiest for a single traveller. There are so many people travelling, doing gap years etc, that you can't help hooking up with travel companions. There are plenty of companies in Australia who do small travel groups to some of the best tourist locations and it is a great way to meet people. Stop worrying, book a ticket and enjoy it.
  8. Spiggot rings are available to suit most wheels if you can work out the size you need. Try http://www.alloywheels.com/Fitment_Guide/Saab for the basic dimensions. You then need the dimensions of the wheel you want to fit. A steel ruler will give you a good idea. It is then the difference between the bore of the centre of the standard wheel and the new wheel. I got some off Ebay for a few pounds.
  9. My Octavia 2.0 TDi regularly gives 55-60 mpg and a little more on a long run. I try not to use supermarket diesel, especially Morrisons with its higher Bio diesel content. There are Shell and BP garages in Sheffield which are at least as cheap as any of the supermarkets.
  10. Depends how bad they are. Try Valet Pro Bilberry wheel cleaner and Chemical Guys wheel sealant. The first is very good at removing grime and brake dust, the second cleans and polishes the wheel and adds a protective layer that makes them much easier to clean in future. Both products last for ages as you only use small amounts. Try here: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk
  11. It must be great having a mate like Ed China who has a big workshop and works for free !!!! Maybe Ed is independantly wealthy and enjoys doing a weeks work for no pay.
  12. Great destination, though expensive these days due to Euro values. Self catering cottages are relatively cheap and can be really nice. Have been a few times but stayed slap bang in the middle on the shores of Lough Derg last time I was there. Beautuful scenery, quiet roads, easy drive to lots of scenic and historic places but less than 2 hours from Dublin. Check carefully for all the extras on the 'cheap flights', the cost rockets up when you start to add all the unavoidable extras in.
  13. Try Sam Lovett at Dearne Plumbing. He fitted a new bathroom for us, on time, on budget and a first class job. You will find plenty of recommendations for him on here but you may have to wait.
  14. Not true I'm afraid. Wanted an appointment to view an empty house and suggested several different days/times. The agent offered one appointment which didn't fit any of my suggestions. I explained that I worked shifts and was told that was my problem not theirs. A call to their head office in London changed their minds. Too many young staff (and presumably, cheap), who wouldn't recognise customer service if it jumped out in front of them, and who have never bought or sold a house in their lives.
