  1. I've just typed "slugs in the house" into Google, and this happened to be the third link that came up, which is convenient for me and it might get me posting on this site again... Yup, we've got this problem too. We've just moved into our new rented accommodation in the Crookes district (yes, we're students) and they're all over the place. On the dining room and lounge floor, and on the stairs. The floor and rugs are filthy with slime trails. We're not certain where they come from, there's a trapdoor to the cellar in a corner of the dining room which we think they originate but we can't be certain. One method I remember my parents using back home in the garden was to place grapefruit halves in strategic positions. Orange halves (or any other citrus) would also do I guess, but we don't have any to hand at the moment. If we were to lay down solids (we'll try salt) or liquids (we'll try beer as well) how is it best to position them? Oh, and did the copper trick work?
  2. Being a chiild is much better than being an adult, it means that people do things for you and you also get away with p****** people off easier . That and you'll spend the rest of your life in adulthood so you should enjoy your childhood while it lasts. I'm 19 and I've been trying to make my childhood last as long as possible before I get forced to quit Uni and go into some stuffy office somewhere.
  3. That trial run a year ago would have been the same trial run advertised on this news item. I remember it too. Just stick with Nice 'N' Spicy I say, accept no other.
  4. A point almost completely unrelated to the thread topic, but... a University graduate will pay on average £50,000 more in taxes throughout their lifetime than someone leaving education from secondary level. So there !...
  5. Note the date that the item in the link was posted .
  6. I heard news on this back at the beginning of 2004, and I still fail to be able to work out how the University expects to break even on what seems like an immense setup cost. I've just finshed spending this year in Halifax Halls of Residence (it's next to the ones planned for demolition, and is very much like them in terms of facilities etc.) and I've got to say it's the best Halls I've seen - and I've seen Halls from over fifteen Universities. This Uni charges it's Halls residents around 50% more rent than most other Unis, but paying that extra was - in my opinion - money very well spent. For Halls, the rooms are excellent and the many and varied amenities around are all at a high standard. I don't see how money will be saved in the long term as admissions will likely drop, meaning the University will have a tough job to pay back what seem like very large building costs. I really don't see the problems with the current setup.
  7. Haven't seen it for a year or so now, but I'm stil wondering how Mr. Beaver gets his teeth so sparkly clean. I'm sure it wasn't just the Colgate. (Or was it Colgate? I forget.) McDonalds... eugh. Just when I thought their ads couldn't get any worse, they... I'm not even going to bring myself to type what I was going to type there. I like how it took L'Oreal several years to realise that "Because you're worth it!" sounds better than "Because I'm worth it!". Only a bit though. If you want a good laugh try and catch Michael Schumacher doing a L'Oreal advert next time you watch German TV. Such a great, well-rounded person and possibly the greatest car racer of all time shouldn't be degrading himself like this...
  8. I taught at the primary school in Park Hill for a while, it's a very good one . That's about all I know of the place though.
  9. I was the 666th person to choose Frasier Crane. Woohoo...
  10. Well, I hope the reconnaissance helped him, that he made the most of the precious time he had - that could have been his only chance. Hope he recovers soon.
  11. Being a student, a lot of mine a related to the Uni, although there are others. Overlooking Stannington from the south gives a good view, and as far as the town centre goes it's probably outside at the bar opposite the Lyceum theatre on a quiet day.
  12. What did he get up to, have you found out yet?
  13. I was listening to an hour-long tribute to him on Radio 5 this morning. Learnt quite a lot about him that I didn't know - in other words, almost everything. On a mostly unrelated note, I have an ex-girlfriend that is ex-President Woodrow Wilson's great-grandniece.
  14. For his appearance on The Simpsons. No, seriously.
  15. Listen to this guy, he's got the right idea. Why bother finding it out? What good will it do us to know?
