  1. OH MY GOD!!! Whats all the whining bout on here?! The_Rage is simply letting people know about a new website and it seems to have been taken over by this RossP (who hasn't helped the number of hits as in percentage terms 100 out of 333 is not that fab). As an innocent bystander I get that RossP is clearly trying to promote his clubs admirable record.........however he just sounds like an arrogant piece of work and if I was researching a new club the character of the people who are attending would be part of the assessment and he is providing negative advertisement. Get this thread back on track - check out the new website anyone who is reading this and decide for yourself. If you have any genuine issues with the factual content of the site can I suggest contacting the administrator of the site directly and discussing it with them. Be proactive not negative
  2. ooo can you remember where the poster was liznospam??
  3. I know there are like a million of these threads but none appeared current. Does anyone know of a pay as you go yoga class that has places. Me and a friend are interested. I live in the owlthorpe/beighton/crystalpeaks/intake area and he's near norton so s8/heeley/meersbrook. Either area would be great. Can anyone help?? x
  4. We're planning on it - quite fancy basketball........ 38 days to go!!!
  5. I might be headed there for the third time but i'm more excited than ever!!!! I've done all the typical sights and this time i'm going wandering!!! It still amazes me that in a city that has a reputation for being so jaded and dangerous and has silly amounts of tourists, that when you open your mouth to chat and they here the brit accent come flooding out that they still get so giddy!!! I love it!! I cant wait to eat a slice of pizza bigger than my head, have a piece of cheese cake with twice as many calories as the recommended daily intake for a woman, tell a diner waitress how i would like my eggs, get swept along with several hundred people at a cross walk, watch people break dancing in the subway, people watch in central park, lose myself in phantom, wear the soles off my shoes with how much walking i'll do, have my order translated into spanish in mcDonalds (this happened to me the first time i went and i only ordered a coke- uno coca cola......!!) watch some unknown band in a strange little bar in the east village and everything else i stumble across!!!!! giddy giddy giddy!
  6. THe stall on crystal peaks market isn't big but its pretty good
  7. Me again!! Some put on here earlier as a tip was to not look like a tourist. THat as daft as some people might think it sounds is great advice - If you walk around with your jaw flapping at every tall building carying your camera round your neck and all your travelling money in your bag you are a total target. If you relax, enjoy yourself and apply common sense (something simple like carry a bag that has a strap across your body and zips and you can pull to the front where you can see it rather than sticking your wallet in your back pocket) people will take very little notice of you. And when i say people i mean thieving scumbags with no common decency! When we went to madrid - two of the girls on the trip had all their money nicked on the subway from the aorport to the hotel cos they had their bags open and dangling behind them on a busy train......not a good start ot the trip!
  8. i've been twice already and am going back in october for round three!! I don't think you really need a city pass. there is so much to do and if you get some comfy shoes on and get walking you find loads of random stuff on the way. As for the crime issues i went wandering by myself at night and day and i felt fine - don't get me wrong i wouldn't go wandering through the park (at night at all) or on the subway late night (on my own - was fine as a group) but thats just common sense. I never saw any trouble when i was there and to be honest people were really friendly, especially when the english accent comes flying out your mouth!!! I would def second the suggestion to get the metrocard 7 day pass - you can get around so easily and its reasonably priced. Also if you want to see a show but don't have a specific one in mind then get to the TKTS booth in times square for half price tickets. Natual history museum is fab but MOMA and the guggenheim were a must see for art lovers. Me and my friend bought the "little black book" from a book shop and its worth getting - its a yearly produced guide of all the restaurants and bars with a write up and price guide for each district (although lonely planet has stuff like this in too). If you get a really good guide book like the lonely planet they have stuff like district walks and stuff like that. Make your own fun!!!!! Yes you have to see all the stuff from the movies but don't get too upset because we found so much random stuff by getting lost and checking out the different districts. Yes the upper east side and all the brownstones are great but the east and west village and places like soho and the meatpacking district are so much more interesting and lively and eclectic. oh i'll stop rambling now!!!! I'm just getting excited about my own trip, sorry!!!
  9. just looks like a really nice scarf wrapped round his head to me.....
  10. We had a bit of a mare when we went. Table booked for 8 o'clock, took bout 45 mins before we had out order taken. Starter arrived at 9.45 with a promise of mains within 20 mins. By half 10 and 2 and a half hours after we arrived we ended up leaving. We were starving and fed up. Not the best start to a night out it has to be said and some of the lads who were only out for the meal as they were working at silly o'clock next morn had a very pointless night!!! Not to say its all negative. I personally think they just opened a bit too soon and tey weren't really ready. THey only had 2 chefs and no support staff and a full house. Bit of a recipe for disaster i suppose. Whilst it was a bit of a farce on that night i really hope it picks up and i'll go back again because the little bit of food we had was yummy, the place was lovely and the bloke that runs it was very nice. THey did try their best and gave us complimentary drinks but unfortunately we just never go the food!!! AS for the prices it looks like its dead expensive but for your 11-15 pound dish price, that includes your main, rice and choice of bread. Still more than your local place but like i said from the tiny bit of food i had it was lovely in a really nice restaurant slap bang in the city centre night out district. tHe menu looks amazing too. Loads of different types of dishes. Here's hoping the second attempt is as good as i think it'll be!!!
  11. The payrises in question aren't massive pay hikes, they are rises due to inflation as someone said to try and account for increased cost of living. What they are proposing is to freeze pay for public sector workers earning 18k plus whilst hiking taxes. That basically constitutes lowering your pay and for some may have a significant impact on ability to pay the bills. Personally i work in the NHS and the wages for most are not 40k (We wish!). Most of the "qualified" positions start between 20-25 thousand (nurses, lab staff, physios, radiography etc) with doctors and management being the obvious exception to the rule. I pay my bills and i try and have a life at the same time and its not really all that easy sometimes so someone freezing your pay then taking even more off you at the same time is a prospect i personally find quite daunting. People have mentioned fireman getting paid good wages to sit on their bums 80% of the time and police pensions being really good - so what?!?! The 20% of the time they're working they're running INTO fires while the rest of us run screaming in the other direction. THe police are chucking themselves at knife wielding dipsticks and people who decide violence is a sport. Paramedics go to try and save someone's life and get physically abused. All the while working silly hours. They earn their money just as much or moreso than a pen pusher in a plush office earning 50k from the private sector. Its not a competition over who's the most deserving, its simply people wanting to earn their wage. Public sector workers have been receiving below inflation rises for years already so to then freeze it is an insult.
  12. Last couple of times i've been to la tasca on ecc rd both myself and people i went there with ended up ill!!!! eeek La mancha is nice food but the restaurant itself is a bit poop and we had to wait aaaaaaaaaaaaaages for everything and its very frustrating after a while. Platillo's is def very nice but a little bit procey for what it is to be honest. Cubana's on trippet lane is yummy. Its got a really good atmosphere and lovely food. Totally unpretentious and lively and never had a bad meal or night out there. Oh they also do fab cocktails!!!!!!
  13. CarolW - to be honest i haven't got a clue. Doesn't say anything in the leave book but my grade 2 might be going. She is a BBTS member and tries to attend the meetings
  14. hi carolw, i'm a BMS 1 in a hospital haem and transfusion lab (for my sins!). Everyone in our lab trots off to the donor van when it arrives at a/e too!!!
