  1. Keep your chin up Evie34! My OH and I bid on a few houses last year and lost out on them. We finally had a bid accepted and moved in December, and I wouldn't have it any other way. When I think about the house we have now, and the houses we bid on- I am so glad we didn't get those first few! What we did for this one: Put in a weird offer number- won't tell you the exact price but say the house was on for £180k, we put in £185,180.00. Made the EA laugh and I think I got some points for that. I laid my cards on the table a number of times to the EA and agreed to meet with their FA. She was actually excellent, but I think that also gives you points. We went to see the house a few times, chatted with the then-owner. It was her family home, and I think she was looking to sell it onto people who would cherish it as she had- never hurts to say yes and nod in all the right places. It's easy for me to say now as those were the most stressful months of my life- we had a buyer for my flat lined up and she was pushing us to move- but looking back, it all worked out wonderfully! So- good luck! Maybe have that note ready for your next offer? Your dream home will happen
  2. Hi everyone, not exactly a heating or boiler issue- but a shower issue, hoping to get some plumber's advice! We have a Triton Sirona Satellite shower that has stopped working. We have hot water everywhere else in the house, although in the bathroom tap it's a bit "spitty". The shower pump seems to be OK- we turned off and on and it's making it's quiet rumbly noise. We replaced the batteries in the control unit in the shower, so it's not that. The red light is flashing or constantly on once you've pressed "go". Any ideas?
  3. Yep, that's exactly our thoughts. We just need to find a builder...
  4. Hi all, We're buying a house in S8 and we've had the homebuyers report back. There were a few red flags but we're not sure how concerned to be about them. Basically, it's a 1930s semi and one recommendation was to get the wall ties checked out, and another two to have a look under floors in the attic and extension to check that there isn't any rot or damage underneath. There were some others too. We're basically looking for someone with an experienced eye to go around with us, with the survey, and to let us know if any of the things flagged up are serious or concerning. Does anyone have any recommendations? Cheers, Kel
  5. Read Dominion. A very interesting take on what might have happened has Churchill never become PM.
  6. Exactly what I meant. We're often sat waiting for a train that's nothing to do with the southbound line, I was just wondering if improving the junction to Manchester would reduce the delays.
  7. Brilliant! I get the train to Nottingham every day and it always has to stop at Dore to let a train through. Hopefully this will help trains coming from the south as well.
  8. I'm pleased to have just witnessed the removal of the cones on Park Grange Road!
  9. Talk to a medical professional. TB is a tricky one, you can "have it" but not be contagious for years.
  10. Well, I've just been out and they've taken down the barriers just before Park Grange Road tram stop, seems promising. And I think they have different people doing different types of work, and they must also have at least two shifts so I'm not surprised that people see different workers there every day.
  11. I live next to the tram route and I can't imagine for the life of me how they're behind when they start at 6.45am on a weekday and hardly any later on a weekend. Thanks to the poster above for enlightening me as to what they do all day. I will be writing a letter.
  12. I think mine are triggered when I have too much coffee/not enough water. I get the bright light and loss of vision followed by a pounding headache above my left eye. I usually just go to sleep but that's not always possible- so thanks for the medication advice
  13. I second the money saving expert forums. Lots of people in the same situation and lots of support, and also some good information about how to make your money stretch. Good luck
  14. They do European forecasts too. Just translate the page and search for Sheffield and nobody need ever complain about crappy met office predictions ever again.
  15. http://www.yr.no/ is the best weather website I've found. It's almost always correct.
