  1. I would recommend the Duke of York, Ashbourne Road, Pomeroy, Nr Flagg, Buxton, SK17 9QG. In the heart of walking country, ideal base for Castleton, Bakewell etc. Great little campsite with breathtaking views. A bit basic as far as toilets and showers go, but adequate unless you like glamping, and you can use the pub facilities from 8am onwards. Fantastic pub on site that does great meals at reasonable prices, and a better welcome from Derek (the site owner) you won't get from anywhere. At £5 per night (£10 with EHU) it's very reasonably priced also.
  2. Not a bad route Flying Duck, although I would do Pitlochry on the way up, then on the way down, come through inverness and Nairn, down to Grantown on Spey and Ballater (close by to where the Queen's Balmoral Castle is), move along to Aberdeen (the granite city, some fantastic architecture) and on down the east coast on the way back to Edinburgh. While in Aberdeen, don't forget to sample Aberdeen butteries (from a bakery), and also Sweetheart Stout and Stovies (from anywhere) while in Scotland. Either way, have fun.
  3. Hi Barnie, I would also recommend going local for your first trip. I would also recommend the Duke of York, Ashbourne Road, Pomeroy, Nr Flagg, Buxton, SK17 9QG. 4. We go every year in september (when the schools are back) to a Haven site. Always around the same price. Last year was Mablethorpe, monday to friday for 2 adults 1 child for £14, and it included entertainment passes.
  5. When we had the tent, our kids used to sit on the pillows and duvets. We don't do that now that we have a folding camper, but daughter still takes her "magic" blanket and still sits on that.
  6. I also buy online, but generally use http://www.vetmedic.com They give a reliable and reasonably priced service and have never let me down in the past.
  7. I never had to worry about vaccinations for my dogs. Took them to Vets4Pets for puppy vaccinations paid £50 extra (which made £75 back then), and they were covered for life. All future boosters, were free.
  8. I do lettuces already but hadn't thought of apples. Thanks for that Parcher, will go put a couple up now. They've had alsorts over the last few days, everything but the meat from the christmas dinner, and they seem to love stuffing.
  9. Hi Parcher, well, they are rescues from the "happy hen" place, if you catch my "quad bike advert" drift. Purple-Sarah, A friend of mine rescued over 200, and has managed to get them all homed, I think. But she does this on a regular basis, so is always looking out for new homes for more girlies in the future. Here are some pics of our girls and their new home. It is on a solid floor at the mo, but when the weather turns nicer, they will be going on to grass, so that they can scratch around. The chuck house is 5 and 1/2 foot wide by 3 and 1/2 foot deep, and the run is 4 foot wide by 6 foot long. The girls are looking a lot better than what they did when they first arrived in such a short time. No eggs yet, but not expecting any in this weather. Anyone know of anywhere that sells boredom busters in bulk? (bit like see treats for budgies but bigger). They going through lettuces and bags of stir-fry like there's no tomorrow, lol.
  10. Pmsl, yes. Only intended getting 4 but managed to come away with 6, so the increasing has already started, lol. No more though until we have increased the coop and run. I want my girls to be comfy and live in luxury now, lol. They've had a hard enough life already.
  11. Hi Everyone, Just to let you know, I got my coop, my feeders, bedding and everything else set up, and that my chucks have arrived today. They were not very "happy hens". They are in a bit of a sorry state, but hopefully will come through ok now, once they feather up and start to take on some weight. We ended up with 6, so now need to enlarge the coop and run, just to give more space and comfort. I will take piccies over the next few days and post on here, as some of you have requested, then give you an update later down the line. Thank you to everyone for all the info, advice and recommendations for stockists. Frol
  12. Hiya Hayley, You can get empties on Sheffield Freecycle, and possibly on here if you ask. Saves you paying out for extra.
  13. Thanks Maryjane, That's how I use to do it, but didn't know if things had changed over the years ( like you now have to provide water etc while they are locked up overnight), you know how crazy the rules can change and I didn't want to fall foul of the law, so thought it best to ask and make sure.
  14. That's taking voyeurism a bit too far! Wouldn't fancy it myself, it's a bit too open, and to coin a pun "one little prick and it would all deflate". I'll stick to the tent that I have, and hopefully my folding camper next season.
  15. We always go to Go Outdoors, as they always tend to be the cheapest around. I think we paid £12 in August for our last refill.
