  1. There is room to put another line in out to Stocksbridge as this used to be a double track main line. The problem at Stocksbridge would be where to locate a park and ride. The current Network Rail line ends at the old Deepcar station then its a private line into the steel works. Deepcar would then be the next closest location but the land around the station site is/was earmarked for housing?
  2. There are still signalmen in Sheffield, we haven't got rid of all the boxes just yet but it's coming.
  3. Network Rail don't issue the taxi permits IIRC thats East Midland Trains. If it was us I'd push for a dozen maximum at least then we could get in and out of work.
  4. Well worth a read but I am biased There's also a nice pic on the picture Sheffield site if you search Suffolk Road, shows a tram passing the depot.
  5. Doesn't need any signalling just an alteration to running times for trains between Woodburn and Woodhouse.
  6. What cutting? The lines in the open on the stretch paralel to the new housing development.
  7. Unfortunately its not mainline OLE as its only for the trams and comes in the form of 750V DC so not suitable for heavy rail services.
  8. I've had quite a few bargains from the closing down sale. As for the managers of the store, Homebase has just gone through a re org where they had to apply for new positions that have been created. Unfortunately the shop floor staff haven't been as lucky and many will be unemployed just in time for Christmas.
  9. Great christmas present for the staff working there, Homebase have terminated their lease early so the Range can take the unit over.
  10. There are very few left now from the era you are talking about, just a toss up now whether they will have all retired before the box at Sheffield closes and moves to York.
  11. How the time obviously flies by!! Both Tom and Alan have been gone for some time now. Tom fills his time with his woodworking and shooting, as for Alan I think it was at a funeral when I last saw him.
  12. Swampy Marsh is still going in the PSB at Sheffield but is due to retire this year, Mick Ryalls finished about two years ago, I recognise some of the other names.
  13. Totley tunnel hasn't closed, its the route Manchester trains use from Sheffield.
  14. Many thanks johnme it was a very interesting project.
