  1. Not true. There's an obligation to make reasonable adjustments for disabled individuals in the provision of goods and services. The driver here failed to do that, which is an act of discrimination. OP, have you reported the driver to the bus company? His behaviour really wasn't acceptable.

I also use this junction every day and I agree entirely with the increase in moronic behaviour because people are so self entitled that they don't need to wait the additional two minutes it would take to wait patiently in the correct lane alongside almost every other normal driver. They'd rather nearly cause accidents because they are too impatient to sit in traffic. Incidentally, I've seen two near misses here - both of them taxi drivers who decided to drive the wrong side of the traffic island to then boot their cars downhill and cut in after the traffic (one when the light was on red). It really makes my blood boil!
  3. Frustratingly, no. I didn't even see a road sign warning of them in advance - just appeared to a blocked off junction one day and had the pleasure of diverting through several housing estates until I meandered back vaguely on track...!
  4. True - but the roadworks are only one way have been since last week - outbound is usually clear!
  5. I turned up there before the police had blocked it off and was directed back towards town. All I could see was a bus at the pedestrian crossing with its hazard lights on - this was at 16:40. The police crime investigation unit also turned up as I was queuing back towards Derek Dooley Way.

  7. She will hopefully get significant tax credits towards childcare costs as a single parent. When I earned £900 per month (full time employment) tax credits covered about 75% of the nursery bill. Her partner should also pay something towards their child, which should help, and child benefit accounts for another £80ish per month.
  8. The tailbacks went all the way back to Derek Dooley Way near park square roundabout at 16:45. Of course it wasn't helped by the self important attitude of drivers ignoring the red traffic lights to barge their way into any gap left, even if only a few inches...
  9. The traffic lights are separating the area leading onto the motorway slip heading northbound. They've also widened the carriageway to include a third lane. I was caught out by this when I exited the northbound carriageway to head towards birdwell - if you now get into the left lane it takes you back onto the M1 north rather than straight on as it used to - three cars around me also ended up in the wrong lane! From what I can see, it's more likely to cause an accident as it is now!
  10. Try searching for fully comp - it actually reduced the price of my insurance by quite a significant amount!
  11. You're not going to be able to get a recommendation without at least saying which area of law you wish them to practice in... And solicitors aren't allowed to be "feminist" - it would breach SRA rules and would probably be discriminatory...
  12. Im actually rather surprised that nobody had pointed out that pulling over on the A61 would actually be a rather dangerous manoeuvre. Its a busy road at any time of day, and on the single carriageway section, it would create a dangerous and unnecessary obstruction. You could pull into the layby, but then you'd be faced with having to pull into busy traffic (and it's busy at any time of day) driving at circa 50mph. It does strike me as a rather bizarre suggestion.
  13. I suppose that's why it's unpaid leave (to relieve the costs burden) and why the government recently increased the qualifying period for unfair dismissal rights to two years... It's a constant balancing act! Plus employers can still do all of the above... As long as they act within the law!
  14. Just to be clear - parental leave and dependant leave are completely different. Parental leave is available for children up to five years old and has to be requested in advance. Emergency (unpaid) dependant leave is "reasonable" time off to effectively sort out emergencies. It doesn't necessarily cover looking after your child yourself - only "making arrangements" for the child to be cared for. Therefore, it would only be "reasonable" if you were the only person available to care for your child. If they are disciplining you solely for asserting your statutory right to unpaid dependant leave, though, that could leave you with a sex discrimination claim against them. I presume the letter inviting you to the disciplinary hearing informed you of the potential outcome (i.e. first stage warning... through to dismissal)? They should give you the right to be accompanied to the meeting (work colleague or trade union rep) and let you know any evidence against you in advance. You then should be given the right of appeal against the disciplinary sanction. You need to point out that the absence was not unauthorised - it was taken as per your legal right to do so. Also - you can still make a formal flexible working request (again, its your legal right) and they can only refuse on certain grounds. They do need to hold a meeting with you to discuss the request to avoid being in breach of the Regulations.

No, it REALLY doesn't OP, I suggest you research catastrophic injuries because it's quite insulting to those who actually have been unfortunate enough to experience this to compare your situation with theirs. Once you've been run over by a bus or have suffered brain damage due to a significant head trauma, then you may have some input on the subject.
