  1. I had my kitchen knives sharpened by a fella who works in a little workshop next to the Taylor's Eye Witness works on Milton Street (off Hanover away). The ladies in the sarnie shop on the corner will point you in the right direction.
  2. Me too! Let's have some kids. ...unless you're a bloke, in which case let's hug awkwardly.
  3. The last lot of wind blew two large holes in my roof. I'm currently relying on a shower curtain stapled to the beams in order to keep the rain out.
  4. I'll second this. Had a lovely burger with pulled pork the other day. The fries were rather ordinary, but the burger… Yum.
  5. Personally, if I get a parking notice from a private parking firm I ignore it. I've probably had a dozen from Excel and Britannia Parking. At the most it led to a few phone calls from some pseudo-solicitor asking for money, but more usually just a few letters increasing in threat. I blanked them at every turn and they eventually went away. The people I work with have had hundreds between them over the years, and do exactly the same as me. Obviously it's up to you what you do, but on a sheer point of principle I wouldn't pay a fine* when I've just driven through the place - it's utter nonsense. Nor would I trust them to be reasonable when you explain your situation. However, it's not pleasant having them chase you, and I wouldn't be so presumptuous to advise you to do what I did. Good luck. *they're not fines, they're invoices. Only the plod and local authorities can fine you.
  6. Have you told the Plod? We had a letter from them the other week asking for anything suspicious to be reported as there have been a number of burglaries recently. I'd say knocking on random doors expecting people to buy a leather bed counts as suspicious….
  7. The crossroads where Napier Street (the road with Waitrose entrance on it) crosses Summerfield Street. Accidents there are very common as it's a crossroads with no traffic lights, very poor visibility, access from four directions, lots of traffic, and it's at the bottom of a small hill which people speed down. I've seen the aftermath of many smashes, and witnessed one poor lass in a bike/car crash which sent her flying clean over the bonnet and land on her head. Amazingly she was fine barring shock and a few bumps (helmets are a good thing folks).
  8. Having just seen yet another cyclist collected by an Ambulance from the road outside my office... ...I've completed the questionnaire.
  9. Crossed wires... I was commenting slightly tangentially on the Meersbrook incarnation of Costa. I shall bow out.
  10. Really? The extension that was built on the end of Boots, and just happened to be coffee-shop-sized, and instantly occupied by Costa?
  11. Rhetorical question. I'd have thought that in order to build a coffee shop from scratch you'd need need permission for the usage of the new building. Weren't McDonalds told not to build on Eccy Road as it wasn't deemed appropriate? As such, given the existing outlets up Chezzie Road in Meersbrook, I cannot see what Costa will add above what it will take away.
  12. I just noticed there's a new Costa in Meersbrook. It's opened opposite two indie tea rooms / cafes. Who on earth thought that was a good idea?
  13. Having been to the Philippines, it's not exactly a gastronome's paradise, so I'd be interested to see what a themed restaurant would serve. The duck embryo thingy and chicken broiled in a vinegary gravy are the two local dishes I remember. The latter was tasty enough, but I didn't have the stomach for the former....
