  8. hi Hillsbro thanks for the photo, thats my Walter apart from the hair.tears are in my eyes.God bless Walter
  9. was Walter, the one with the long black overcoat? his hair as i remember was combed straight back and was black in colour.I was born on Middlewood road and would often walk with Walter to the park he always told me he was going back to be a little boy. Also there was i'm not quite sure George or maybe it was Arthur they would always sit in the old mans hut which was near the play area.I have fond memories of Walter and i though he would have died years ago.I can see him now walking down the road with his arms at the back of him.I also remember Ivan who was the grave digger in Wadsley Churchyard.I am almost 63 so Walter must be in his late seventies or even in his eighties.Good to see he is still around.
  10. Hi all you expats, would like to thank you for your input;just read through this thread and brings back memories of my childhood days,at breakfast reading the back of the cereal box "win a holiday to Canada / Austrialia" The gypsie in me yearning to be set free to travel to these vast continents , filling out the entry form in hopes that i would win and sadly this never came to fruition.Next step was to try to get to these places on the boys sheme which was around in the sixties but had my hopes and dreams dashed when my old man would not sign the consent form.Thinking back it was sour grapes on his part because mother would not emigrate to OZ after he had got a sponsership and a job lined up. Well here i am in my sixties still with my dreams and still jn Sheffield "one day maybe" when i win the Lotto i may fulfill my dreams.
  11. 15 middlewood tavern police check like they to do ,came in two of them by the time they questioned everybody else i had worked birth date out and got away with it .
  12. went to upperthorpe first encounter was with old man Inman his method was a slipper; you would bend over at on end of the room and he would tap on the radiator with the slipper and run across the room and wack you on the backside. The head Mr Causey loved the cane; it was said it contained lead in one end and yes it did smart.Jim Vickers a considerate woodwork teacher let me go to the bogs for a crafty fag and then gave me the stick for the honour of the privelige. The final occurrence was with who i regarded as an absolute bully that keep fit fanatic Burton he used to take some into the cloakroom and give them a thump or two, my punishment i got the stick he missed his mark and caned me across the wrist calling him a four eyed B******d i was of home nursing a swollen wrist.Had a three week holiday until the old man was ready to go and see the Head teacher.Thank you for your due punishment all concerned
