Religious extremists want Free School in Sheffield.
Bridgeblox replied to Bloomdido's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I'd agree with that one - it is indeed literature, although as a foolish Christian I'd argue that it is the unerring word of God, but note, not all to be taken in a completely literal sense. At this point (the beginning of Genesis) doesn't even flow as historical narrative although it changes in style a few chapters later and becomes this. Given that this assorted collection of books is known as the 'Old Covenant' rather than 'a chronological history of creation', then I'd hazard a guess that it should be read primarily to help understand what that covenant is. -

But even excellent scientist Christians believe God created the world. Doesn't that make them creationists? -

Well I suspect that I'd be deemed a creationist and the relatively little I know about these things I'm perfectly happy with. But then I'm just a not very interesting or clever bloke from Sheffield, so I concede that you might be more knowledgable about these things. But there's a Professor of Maths at Oxford University - John Lennox - who seems to hold the same view. And there are eminent scientists in each of those fields who call themselves Christians. What I'm more intrigued by is why atheists seem to be so cross all the time? We Christians may be thick, but at least many of us seem happy enough. -

I suspect Young Earth views are only a subset of Creationism. The latter, at it's most basic is simply a belief in a creator God, however long he took to put things together. -

I don't know many Christians in the UK that are 'young earthers'. Everyone I've spoken are comfortable with evolution. A quick read of the first couple of chapters of Genesis and it's pretty easy to see that each 'day' of creation doesn't specifically indicate a 24 hour period of the earth's revolution. Plus, if you dig a bit deeper, you'd see that the first 11 chapters are in a different style to the later ones. -
I've got a cubic metre bag of stone suitable going free, but will need collection from S11. PM me if you want it.

No green garden waste bag collection in RURAL areas
Bridgeblox replied to xgrifterx's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I'm in S11 and I've just found out that Veolia has stopped the collection. We've had no leaflet on this, or to tell us that the system elsewhere has changed. The next door neighbours are elderly and don't drive - presume it's OK just to bin green waste in the black bin that we can't compost? -
It is the church hall/centre - most of the staff have offices in the building and there are a number of rooms/halls within it. It was indeed once a junior school, and still includes the Fulwood Playgroup.

DFS - Is there a sale on yet ?

Whirlow Farm shop has eight legs of venison for £80 - what do you think - is it too dear? -
illegal: contrary to, or forbidden by law, esp. criminal law. Parking half on a kerb on the public roads in Sheffield may well be contrary to law, but the car park here isn't a public road, so I don't think it's illegal. Of course there's the other definition: illegal: sick bird of prey.

Centertainment was built as an out-of-town entertainment and eating complex - it was built to be driven to. If you look at their website the owners are proud of the parking: "Valley Centertainment has just secured its fifth Park Mark award for safe and secure free parking" although it does also note that "It also has its own Supertram stop and is served by several local bus routes". To be honest, I've given up on Centertainment - when the car park is full (which seems to be often), you can't park in the Meadowhall Retail Park and parking elsewhere is tricky. We've made the decision to go to the Showroom or Odeon in town, which is easier to get to via public transport from Hunter's Bar, although I recognise the Odeon isn't quite as good.

Which road has the most potholes in Sheffield
Bridgeblox replied to cycleman83's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Common Lane - it's due to be done according to the list though. -
There's a HAllam constituency husting tonight at St Augustine's on Brocco Bank @ 7.30pm. Suspect Nick Clegg won't be there though!
