  1. It's a frequent association - although there's patchouli in absolutely loads of commercially available scents too.
  2. I meant to add, my current personal favourites from my collection are vintage (pre 2010) Dior Homme, Guerlain Héritage, Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule and Oscar for Men by Oscar de la Renta.
  3. I'm something of a fragrance enthusiast and collector (active on perfume forums like Basenotes) and the general consensus amongst the fragrance community is that a fragrance called Aventus by Creed is one of the most powerful 'panty droppers' [sic] of all time. It's expensive but worth a sniff!
  4. EX-member of staff; I stated quite clearly that I was expressing my own opinions, not those of the pub. But I do know that the management are quite happy with the formula right now and that they have no plans to turn the Tap into a wine bar/restaurant/children's play pub/Wetherspoon's/nightclub or anything else. Suggestions are great, I used to get dozens a day (and still do it seems!) but there's a difference between not acting on every single person's opinion and showing "utter contempt!" Anyway, what's so badly wrong with the Aussie chardonnay, the Italian pinot grigio, the Chilean sauvignon blanc, the Californian white zinfandel, the Chilean merlot, the french cotes du rhone or the Aussie cabernet sauvignon the Tap sells? Isn't "nasty" a pretty subjective opinion? Plenty of people seemed to really enjoy them!
  5. I can't and won't speak for the Tap anymore but I personally won't be losing any sleep over the fact you'll not be going there again. Happy drinking!
  6. Thanks for that. I don't work at the Tap and from the sound of it, you're not a customer so customer service is hardly the relevant issue and your near-abusive rant was misdirected. The Tap is a self proclaimed "World Beer Freehouse" and as such, specialises in beer. In addition, in order to satisfy a broader clientelle, it also offers a choice of wines - 2 whites, 3 reds and a rose. So a few people don't like the wines on offer... No one ever complained to me about them whilst I was there and I happened to think they were rather nice! Obviously you can't please everyone all the time (have you ever tried!?), not without losing grip on what you're really about, and that's the point I was trying to make. Call me rude, arrogant and cocky if you like, I'm not going to rise to the name calling. If you don't like The Tap, don't go there, you just can't expect a place like that to drop everything to bend to your personal whim each time you have a niggle.
  7. All I'm going to say is you don't go to McDonald's if you fancy pizza. Plenty of wine bars out there that don't do good beer!
  8. Thanks for all the responses so far; I shall investigate a few of the suggestions and let you know how I get on.
  9. This is a long shot but I've exhausted nearly all other possibilities... I'm keen to find a wholesaler/bakery/small business that produces authentic German chewy pretzels. Not the small, crunchy ones you can buy in bags in supermarkets, nor the huge (admittedly delicious) ones from the likes of Mr. Pretzel in Meadowhall, but the real deal - the sort that go well with a frosty stein of German beer! Any ideas?
  10. A lot of that is due to the weaker abv. beers selling out twice as fast and leaving the stronger ones in their dust. It's not deliberate. The % mark up is the same on all beers, regardless of abv. The breweries sell the stronger beers at a higher price because, amongst other things, the taxman takes a disproportionately bigger chunk!
  11. Swordfish1 beat me to it, but November is looking good. Keep an eye on www.yorktap.com for details of the exact date and of opening events etc. Hope to see you there! Haha, thanks very much and I know exactly what you mean. The place is crammed full of 'olde worlde' charm but those warped, creaky boards can cause sea sickness whilst glass collecting! Hope to see you in there again before long.
  12. You'd need to speak to the breweries for a more thorough explanation since they are the one's setting the prices of these products. We were always just interested in bringing the rarest, most innovative and outright best beers we could to the people of Sheffield at a fair price. If you want Wetherspoon's prices, you could always try Wetherspoon's, but you wont find the same range of quality, hard-to-find craft beers there ...or too many other places for that matter. Some real cynics on the forum today! One of the reasons is that the Tap does such a high turnover of cask ale - sometimes half a dozen new beers going in a single busy session - that it just wouldn't be practical or time effective to be taking a huge chalkboard down from the wall, whilst the bar was crowded, in order to update it. You can bet there'd be a few complaints from people waiting an age at the bar if someone had to go and do such a job instead of serving customers too! Another reason is that it really isn't difficult to ask for a price, guys... Anyway, I have left the Tap for pastures new in the shape of our sister bar in York now (Pivni if anyone's interested), so I'm afraid from here on, you'll need to find someone else to pitch your comments, questions, moans, gripes and inspired helpful advice to! So long, it's been emotional. Dan
  13. Better still, ask a barperson or to see the full drinks menu!
  14. Sierra Nevada is not served from a key-keg, only a few breweries are currently pioneering the new tech at the moment. More info here. Sierra Nevada beers are expensive because they have been shipped thousands of miles from the far side of the USA! As for the Tap's reputation, I think that depends who you ask. We certainly don't seem to be struggling for business though! Keep an eye on the website, http://www.sheffieldtap.com, for regular updates on what beers you can expect soon!
