  1. Yes I remember him. You left a year in front of me, I left in 1945.
  2. Do you remember that everyone that was too late to go into assembly had to walk round the hall to the music with heads bowed ?, I think it was the Dead March. Other than that I had great respect for Mr. Dobson, he was very kind to me when my father died.
  3. It was 5 years old but if there was room for more pupils in the classroom they would let you go at 4 and3/4. My dog used to follow me and lay under the desk until the teacher complained and my mother had to lock up the dog when I went to school.
  4. POPT There was a foundry at the Heeley works.
  5. http://freebmd.rootsweb.com Enter name--around the date of birth and not a lot more, you can try later with more detail if you do not find what you want. In the 1800s people moved to Yorkshire from other counties looking for work so you are never sure where they were born.
  6. We are both Ok thanks. Dennis had a triple bi-pass 7 years ago and it was a huge success, great medical care here. We both miss going to the Lane but we get all the televised games live, we usually watch one and record one or two others. We celebrated our 64th. wedding anniversary last October, where to all the years go ? ? ?. Dennis was please to get your message and sends his best wishes.
  7. I lived on Windmill lane in the 40's, our bathroom was quite large and had the required door.
  8. Hi johnpick, My husband, Dennis Travis, worked at Laycocks for 31 years until 1982, the majority on the Overdrive as a Senior chargehand. He knew Colin and Ray (Cherry) Wragg. He sends his condolences as he did not know that Colin had died. Cynthia, Ontario, Canada.
  9. I found it live on channel 489 but thought that you would be too busy with the wedding to look at it. Hope that everything went well, glad that the weather co-operated.
  10. Small world. The Newspaper shop Staleys share ancestors with my husband.
  11. My Mother worked at Batty's Sweets. She must have been there 1919/1920ish as my brother was born in 1922. She always said that she was a supervisor and spoke very highly about the quality of the confectionery. One of her stories was that sweets were dissapearing off a bench that was under a window, one winter night when it was dark one of the employees stood watch and when a hand came through the window he pulled the window shut trapping the offender, when they went out side to see who it was it was the policeman who did the rounds to make sure all premises were safe for the night. The officer said that he was sorry and no report was made by Batty's.
  12. CB if you are still following this thread. The GAME is on Sports Net World at 10am. You could record it and depending on how happy or not you can watch it or delete it. Give some cheers from my husband and me.
